Waitrose.com JustMail is still £1.69 a month.

Long may it stay that way.

Funny thing is, I stopped using xxxxxxx@tiscali.co.uk for fear of it being pulled from under me, but Talktalk is still keeping it alive, for FREE! Tiscali itself must have disappeared ten years ago.

What we really need is a re-direction service, which must be dirt cheap to provide.

If you have the technical knowhow, I'd strongly suggest getting your own domain name. I've owned <myfirstname><mysurname>.com for about 7 years. These days, there are plenty more TLDs (instead of .com) to choose from, e.g. .family.

The actual email backend can be changed very easily - I currently use GMail, but previously used a different service.

Also gets you some interesting looks and comments when handing out this email address!

Cost to me is less than £7 per year.

I'm not into cherished number plates.

The fun drains away pretty quick after you have to correct people a thousand times because they can't get

    Jeffrey.archer@jeffrey.archer.co.uk

    right.

I am very happy with my current xxxxx@yyyyy.zzz address.
People don't lose the will to live half way through typing it in.

    I hated xxxxx@virginmedia.com . Far too long.

    xxxxx@btinternet.com isn't any better.

If they let us have xxxxx@bt.net , I think I might even pay for it. Well, I already pay, since I have BT Infinity.

MSE are bit slow off the blocks on this one. There has beed a thread running on it for well over a month already.

My guess is that BT are hoping everybody will just do the sensible thing and get an alternate email address so they can close the service down.

Why do people still have ISP email addresses rather than gmail, etc?

I'm asking the very same question. I'm a hotmail.com person and have been for 15 years through four or five different service providers and moving house as well.

No hassle, no remembering to notify everyone when you change and no fees either. There are plenty out there, why pay?
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
