Hello. just wondered if someone could clear something up. You know when you get vouchers from Tesco Clubcard or Sainsburys or wherever for a specific product, can you use them even if you don't buy the product? I use the manufacturer's ones even if don't buy the product but thought the stores would be more strict about their own. Is this the case?

    Many thanks.

when they are sent by the shop and have for example tesco written on them you can only use against the product stated but any manufacturers ones you dont have to buy the product

Normally a Tesco gal but happened to be near an Asda on Saturday so thought I would see what their coupon acceptance was like.

I spent £8 and used self scan. Used 2 50p manufacturers coupons, in date etc. The assistant was at my side like she was jet propelled. Wanted to know exactly which coupons I had used. She opened the slot thingy and retrieved them, checked the dates extremely thoroughly. She then voided one and gave it back. Think I can safely say that particular Asda hasn't caught up with any new policies.

Last year I did an Asda and used the Quick Read Coupons ( £1.00 off ) through the self scan till. I did a £9.60 shop, put 9 vouchers through then paid the 60p in cash.
Went back a couple of days later, did a £11.00 shop, started putting some coupons through and a supervisor stopped me, opened the machine and voided 3 out of the 6 I had used. Then she advised me not to use them without buying a book ( even though they scanned alright !!! )..

This sort of behaviour is why supermarkets stop taking coupons. How you can possibly feel hard-done-by is beyond me!
  • If you live in or around London or Birmingham then the Ideal homes shows, baby shows, vitality show and good food shows are great places for getting coupons. There are plenty of internet comps for winning tickets and it is well worth it. The bristol organic food festival and the bristol balloon fiesta are also good hunting grounds.

Yes, that's true, these festivals and events are worth a look. I searched a bit and found out that it's British Food Fortnight soon (end of Sept & first week of October).

Have a look on this website - link below - for local events planned near you, there is a breakdown by region. Also it says on the homepage that most Supermarkets (particularly Budgens but also others) should be offering food sampling - and hopefully coupons! - around the Country during the event:

HTH someone, think I will also post it as a separate thread so it doesn't get missed.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • finally got a reply to my email i sent

    Thank you for your message.

    Dear Angel

    Thank you for your email.

At present with manufacturers coupons its down to the stores discretion as to how many they accept, so I'd check with the store prior to visiting.

    Internet coupons -

We are currently reviewing acceptance policy as the way forward with many well know companies is to go down the 21st century route of internet coupons rather than the tech manually distributing them to households. In the mean time I can confirm that we do accept internet coupons. Under the same stringent conditions as old style manufacturers' coupons

1 That they are in date
    2. That they are specific to ASDA and not a different retailer (non Asda)
    3. We stock the product

All accepted internet coupons attract the usual handling charge which becomes store income.

One temporary rule until we decide a more comprehensive policy is-

Only 1 internet coupon per product item in any single transaction - Unless the customer actually buys the product and in multiples that reflect he number of coupons tendered.

Hope this helps and we can look forward to serving you again soon.

    Yours Sincerley

  • Hi I went to Asda ( Bridge Centre Portsmouth )today & they accepted all my vouchers nearly £4, (quite a few as small amounts, 20p off etc ) off a £74 shop, except I had loads of the same cereal ones took some no idea how many & gave me a couple back, I didn't buy any of the items on the coupons. Just kept my head down smiled & was very friendly to till operator. I did notice that the till beeped after she'd entered the vouchers, a supervisor came over with her key, no delay at all nothing was explained, perhaps she was overiding something?? Very pleased :T
Comping again - wins so far : 2 V festival tix, 2 NFL tix, 6 bottles of wine, personalised hand soap, Aussie miracle conditioner
