How do determine what a fair wage is?
Japanese companies operate incentive schemes such as attendance, sickness etc which boosts basic pay from below to above the going rate. .0 -
Rather than contributing 10k pa annum to a pension for 5 years there are tax/benefits advantages to contributing 50k in one year (whilst living off savings). MM thinks the former is acceptable but the latter is not.More than the increase in wage?
I am paying all my salary into my pension this year whilst living off savings. Tax gets refunded into my pension but NI does not so earning more means paying more to the govt altogether..I think....0 -

OK, it means paying more to the government but you're still earning more and paying more into your pension.0 -

I would like to claim that but it is not the case, it just alters the split between salary sacrifice and earned income (you can not salary sacrifice below NMW) hence I pay NI on more of my total income, my overall income is unchanged.I think....0 -

Something I do not agree with is the tax payer subsidising employers with tax credits.
Pay a fair wage and do away with tax credits altogether.
does 'anyone who works' mean anyone in the world or what and who is paying?0 -
So should a care worker be paid a very high salary because what they do is deemed, by some, as socially very valuable or do you pay them a rate, that reflects the low level of skill and plentiful supply.
Its not a low level of skill.. Respite care and care to provide dignity for those often reaching the end of their lives is important work that should be valued highly. You may find out one day.0 -

I think most of us get that it is important and hard work. My aunt does stints of care work to supplement her semi-retirement btw, and I hear first hand how draining it is. The advantage is that she can take short contracts and not work full time. You need to explain why people weigh up all the alternatives and then still do the work for the current pay. If we pay more to care workers, will we have a lack of dog walkers?0
