Shouting at the TV moment this morning - BBC unbiased broadcasting corporation:
    (1) Employers have 2 options, put up prices or accept less profits - no option of employing fewer people was even mentioned
    (2) Employers would not employ fewer people, they would look to increase productivity instead - this was where I was shouting at the TV 'Increasing productivity = doing the same work with fewer employees'
    I think....

Well I'm hoping by 2020 I can afford to semi-retire by taking on a minimum wage job for £10/ hour.

I don't want to hear any nonsense about how the number of these jobs might decline in number. Surely dispensing coffee or wheeling plants around a garden centre is worth 20k/ year and customers will happily pay?

We can legislate ourselves richer. We can I tell you!

    20k a year in 2020 money.

I'll happily push people around hospitals, help people put compost in the back of their cars or even stand at the entrance to B&Q and greet people for £20k in 2020 money.

Rises in the minimum wage are going to cause devastation to the greeting industry. I'll be lobbying for the government to nationalise the sector.

Of course it is hard to live on the minimum wage, according to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35924293

The average single adult needs to spend £190 per month on food (excluding toiletries, washing powder etc) - strange, we are a family of 5 who eat well on less than 400 a month which includes toiletries etc......

Maybe do more work with the same number of employees and of course sell the end product to the now minted former NMWers.

Ignoring increases in non-staff costs for the above of course.

Our usual 4 coffees and 4 scones cost 80p more this morning than last week. On the news a nursery said they are putting up their charges by £5 a day. Many of those receiving this increase will not be any better off once the inevitable price rises kick in.

and how much of that is due to minimum wage going up and how much is opportunistic price hiking?
