I'm a "find the money when needed" type.

Envelope saving via spreadsheet. The money is "earmarked" and goes on a separate page, so we know what's been allocated where. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

I keep a running total of each catagory on the side of the speadsheet and enter the totals at the end of the monthMortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0

Envelope style in a broad range with web savers in online banking. eg Christmas, bills etc. Have about 7 web saver accounts linked to main account.0

Similar to Patchwork Cat I use different pots within my bank account to save for major bills and expenses.
I currently have one in use for car tax and insurance plus house insurance as these all fall together at an expensive time of the year.
I also do a bit of a ready cash envelope literally for holiday spending.0 -
I have 6 e saver accounts also. Dentist, hair and beauty, wood, car mot and repairs and Christmas. I also like envelopes for holiday spends

Same idea as LameWolf - I use a spreadsheet version and will occasionally "borrow" from myself to smooth out any seasonal bumps instead of using my overdraft or credit.***Mortgage Free Oct 2018 - Debt Free again (after detour) June 2022***
Never underestimate the power of a beautiful spreadsheet0 -

I do the same as lamewolf & ches. I have separate savings accounts for big stuff ie travel card & study fees, a house account for household bills, then further accounts for the car, holiday, house upgrade etc
A spread sheet keeps everything updated.0 -
I use a combination of spreadsheet and bank accounts. If I manage to go under budget with groceries, utilities, clothes, craft spending the extra goes into my "little" savings account as it is made up of small sums and can be used at any time if I spot a bargain for example.
I also put a sum away each month in a "big" savings account for car bills, holiday, insurances, birthdays etc. I can only take money out for one of these things when they come due and I do not spend any excess as I will need that for a new car eventually.Grocery challenge 2017 January £158.74/£200
