So not only are you incapable of sticking to the speed limit, you didn't know how to use the car either.
And you claim to be a safe driver?0 -

You set it to the speed you want to go, in this case presumably the speed limit or just under, and then you don't need to touch the accelerator. No more speeding

This happened to my OH and the car hire co took both the admin fee and fine off his credit card x£2 Savers Club #156!

Looking for holiday ideas for 2016. Currently, Isle of Skye in March, Riga in May, Crete in June and Lake District in October. August cruise cancelled, but Baby due September 2016! :j0 -
I'm pretty sure there's a large thread on this question in the Australia forums on https://www.flyertalk.com
Go to destinations, then the Australia forum and you should find it, it may be a few pages back and you may have to spend some time reading through it but it might have some useful info for you.0 -
You "literally don't have £500" but can afford to holiday in Australia. You have a car in the UK, sell it and pay the fine. And next time you travel abroad, don't break their laws. Any sympathy I may have had at the start of the thread has certainly evaporated on discovering your attitude in the rest of it.0

I don't think many posters believe you are an awful person for speeding.*pinkchick* wrote: »Anyway thank you to those that gave me advice, it was very helpful and put my mind to rest a bit.
Those that wish to continue debating whether I'm an awful person for speeding feel free to PM me.
But you may be an awful person for not being willing to pay the fines, no matter how much they are.
How do you know who was driving when the car was speeding???
Was your name on the insurance?
Will any points added to the fine put your friend above the disqualification amount?
Anyway pay the fine learn from it and move on, not above the speed limit, of course. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -

I don't think speeding makes you an awful person, so no PM coming your way from this hunk of man.0 -
As a resident of Victoria I have to say that speeding fines are sprinkled around here like confetti.
3kms over the limit (even 100km, so clocked at 103km) incurs a fine.
If its less than 10km/h over you will get AUD186 fine, if a higher range, I'm not sure. Almost everyone I know has 2-3 speeding tickets as its easy to go such a small amount over (and speedos are not that accurate).
Civic Compliance Vic website may give you the answers. I think if your friend completes a stat dec saying she/he was not driving and it was you, their liability will be quashed - but not sure if they will chase you for the fine. Especially as they have no way of registering a UK licence on their database that I am aware of.0
