  • A Nissan Note has loads of boot space, but is compact enough not to seem like a 'big' car. I used to have a wheelchair, changing bag, shopping for me and my mum, and all sorts of bits and bobs in the boot.

One of the best family cars is the Citroen C4 Picasso. A diesel will have decent economy and there is plenty of room in the boot for buggies.

I got a Berlingo when DS was 3 months old. Don't know how we'd have lived without it.

Kept the travel system in the boot, and the lightweight pushchair. Each year we easily fitted 2 babies, with all their paraphenalia, and our dog, and all the Christmas presents and the luggage and bottle warmer and highchair, in there for our UK travels round to see the family.

Still going strong for the tweens and hope it'll last for the teens. More than enough leg room as they grow and France day trips are just wonderful!!!!
Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

It was OK until we had to pack on the way home, when ten Easter eggs had to be added to the equation ... :rotfl:
My teenager would have solved that by eating them ...all in one go if necessary.

What Car magazine regularly recommends the Skoda Octavia as a family car. Boot size is HUGE, the cars are typically well made, good value and well spec'd.

We bought one, it's nice to drive, the boot is HUGE. The only downsides are getting used to it's size (we previously had a VW Polo) and we're now tempted to pack the kitchen sink when we go away! :D

You mean other families don't just shove all the luggage on top of the teenagers in the back seat?

    Must speak to my folks...;)

A hatchback is the answer to this problem. We've never had an issue with car size; I was surprised by the question. ;)

Honda Civic pre-kids, a couple of VW Golfs when they were pram/stroller age and currently a Lexus RX with a massive boot and luxurious legroom now we're all 5'9" plus.

Camping is the only holiday requiring any thought re: space, when kids sit on/snuggle into pillows/duvets and sleeping bags are shoved in their foot wells. What is everyone putting in their cars?

When my son was a baby we had a Vauxhall Corsa, and his buggy filled the entire boot with no room for anything else at all. We then bought a Xsara Picasso. Now the kids are older the car doesn't need to be quite so big, but we do want one big enough to get the bikes on the roof. I've currently got a Citroen Cactus, which I love.

When they reached a certain age, a ton of books ... pre-e-reader devices and mobile phones!

I can remember lugging a crate full of cassettes all over the USA, along with a stack of AA batteries for my Walkman.
