Same flight: 1st delay weather, 2nd delay incorrect flight plan

Options
This is for information rather than advice though comments/advice are welcome.

I have applied for compensation and if there is interest I will update this thread.

The situation relates initially to storm Katie. My flight (BA7012) from Abu Dhabi to Heathrow was due to land at 06.20am but it was diverted to Cardiff after an aborted landing. We landed at Cardiff approx 06.35am.

We waited on the plane at Cardiff for information and were told we would be taken back to Heathrow by coach, but we had to wait on the plane because Cardiff airport could not process so many people at once (the captain assured us it was more comfortable on the plane and for me it was fine, for smokers who had a scary aborted landing, and the man who had been ill on the flight, perhaps no so... irrelevant however).

Ninety minutes later we were told that we would actually be flying back to Heathrow for a second attempt, but that the relevant paperwork would need to be completed.

After another 90 -120 minutes we were told we were good to go, we sat down and fastened out seatbelts... THEN it falls apart, the flight plan was submitted, but with the wrong date!!!!

SO back to going nowhere, they cannot submit another flight plan because the crew are "out of flying hours". We are back to plan A, catching a bus back to Heathrow,.. cue more waiting, first on the plane then at Cardiff airport.

At 11.30am/midday we finally set off on the coach from Cardiff, and we arrived at Heathrow at 3pm.

I know weather is beyond anyone's control, but the date on a flight plan being wrong??? - That is why I am claiming. Had BA stuck to the original plan to provide buses I estimate we would have reached Heathrow by approx 10am.

I'll let you know how I get on, would be interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks

  • Fascinating and keep us posted. I seem to recall other instances where a delay is only partially outside an airline's control. Maybe someone with better recall can dredge one up. I would try a nwnf calculator just to see what they think.

I would think 1st delay was an EC but 2nd delay due to failure in 'duty of care' so not an EC.

    Compensation due imho.
