Fiat 500 Car Hire Bergamo

Hi all

Looking to hire a car for 5 days in May from/returning Bergamo.

Specifically looking for a Fiat 500 but everywhere I can find says Fiat 500 or similar, does anyone know of anywhere reliable worth trying please.

Many thanks

Car hire companies don't explicitly promise that you'll get a specific model of car, so if you book in advance then there's a chance you might not get one, perhaps try and find out which company has the biggest stock of this type of car.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • I've never had the advertised car when I've collected anywhere.

I've rarely had the "or similar" version either.

I did find driving a Fiat Panda on Italian roads to be a scary experience!

Agreed; in 50 rentals, mostly in Italy but also in Spain, the car I get almost never matches the offer; which usually says something like " a small... Fiat panda type"... or " a compact" or "medium"...

Nothing wrong with a Panda... virtually a 600 in different bodywork, and IMHO good to drive. Italian driving style might be scary- but it isn't really; it's just different. Concepts like 'priority' or 'right of way' are just a bit less fixed; first one there occupies the space!

Whoever you rent with, take out your own single trip or annual excess insurance (preferably from insurance4carhire or similar), look at fuel policy... and google the operator (e.g Goldcar have 466,000 negative reviews) or search 'em on Tripadvisor forums ( 20,000 negative comments).

Whereas in 50 rentals- mainly with AVIS/Budget or other mainstream operators via my favourite broker Carhire3000 (now part of http://www.rentalcars.com/ ) not only have I never been ripped off, but often get a free upgrade (I always book the cheapest car- but they don't actually have 3-door models). And fuel policy shows on their 1st search results page, so no tricky 50 Euro hit for unused full-full fuelling scams. You'll get some offers at less than their £100 a week at Bergamo, but they'll be from rip-off merchants

    Happy hiring

Right so was about to book and the prices have gone up a bit, typical!

Anyway can anyone assist with what companies to avoid or to go with out of these please?

Looking at Goldcar, Firefly, Inter rent, Scicily by Car and, Dollar

Also considering giving the car a miss and just using public transport, any thoughts please?

    Thanks

So the next snag is that I do not hold a credit/debit card and was going to use my partners. However after booking through Autoeurope they insist that the card holder be a named driver, but my partner does not have a licence!!!

Had no issue doing this before but think might have to give up the idea of hiring a car for this trip!

Yes. You will get nowhere without a credit card in the name of the driver. Not even debit cards will be accepted.
If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

    The alleged Ringleader.........
  • You could become an additional card holder on your partner's credit card, if it has that facility. They would remain solely liable for paying it off (there's no such thing as a joint credit card).
