TalkTalk Email email meltdown

In my case (like others receiving tens of thousands of duplicated emails) it is clear the problem is with talktalk itself. Every time I open up the email inbox on BOTH my iphone email inbox and my email inbox on my PC the same 1,200 odd emails start downloading. With the PC this cannot be stopped unless I shut down Outlook and start again. This has been going on for over a month (I've got some 80,000 duplicated emails cluttering up my inbox which I will eventually have to sort through and clear) and talktalk are refusing to say what it is they have done that has suddenly caused this problem to presumably thousands of their customers.
This is not just a severe inconvenience but costing me money too since last month it caused me, for the first time, to bust the dowload limit on my iphone and I was charged for the extra usage.0 -
Well, its good to see that TalkTalk are watching this thread because the only reason it exists is because of the total lack of any sense coming back from TT about the multitude of problems that I and many others have suffered over the past 6 months and more in some cases.
Many users feel that publicising the current TT email shambles and their inability to recognise these problems and solve them, is the only way that TT is going to wake up.
I am reluctant to change my primary email address due to the hassle involved informing everybody. Why should I, when TT should fix the problems they have caused.
They seem to be in complete denial that it is their responsibility to fix an email system that used to work OK but now doesn't for many of us.
Apart from the duplicated emails received I am currently unable to send emails and have suffered the same problem in the past.
The community forum is littered with evidence of these issues, if Vicky the TT rep. would care to look.
I have lodged a complaint with OFCOM that TT's complaint procedure does not meet OFCOM's requirements.
We feel our only hope of getting some meaningful action from TalkTalk is to generate as much adverse publicity as we can.0 -
Today I spoke to a TalkTalk CEO rep who tells me that TalkTalk do NOT consider email to be an integral part of the service they provide. It is a "freebie" - a sort of optional extra like a pickle or a tiny pot of coleslaw that comes with your deli sandwich.
TalkTalk do not consider loss of email to be any loss of service, As such, their proposed compensation for 14 days of totally non-functional email is ZERO. As far as they are concerned, if my broadband worked, then they have discharged their obligations.
The CEO rep even told me that she does not use talktalk.net email herself and uses Gmail instead. That's a potent indication of TalkTalk's confidence in their own capabilities.
Finally, after 14 days of no service, my email miraculously began working again, both in Outlook and Webmail. It worked for a whole 48 hours before it fell apart again and I started to get all the duplicate emails that other users have been complaining about. At the moment, my Outlook is working (fingers crossed) even with decrepit old POP3 protocol, but Webmail seems to have "forgotten" all email I received from 3 February up until today (4 April) after having worked normally for 48 hours.
Now that I have had TalkTalk's "final response" I can escalate my complaint to the telecoms Ombudsman.
In the interim, I have back up my mail file, switched all my subscriptions etc. away from my talktalk.net email account and given up on TalkTalk ever being competent to act as an ISP.
And yes, I have several email accounts. Some with Talk Talk, some with free providers like Hotmail, Outlook, Gmail etc. Believe it or not, there was a time when an ISP provided email address was less likely to be deemed a spam account than a free account like Gmail or Hotmail.
Given TalkTalk's recent performance, it is unsurprising that among the numerous email failings recorded on their community "support" boards are complaints about TalkTalk domain being blocked for "too many spammy emails". I have found that French ISPs will not accept any talktalk.net addresses.0
