Hi There
Please help if poss: I would really like to check to see if my wife and I are due any money back from PPI, which would be very useful right now to help me out with debts. The problem is we are both ex Students who moved around many houses and had lots of loans and credit cards over the last 10 years, we are both so busy at the mo and finding all the info regarding card companies, policies and even our old addresses is going to be a nightmare so we were wondering if there are any reliable firms out there that can do a lot (even better most) of the leg work for us? We accept that they will take a chunk of anything they uncover and we are happy to do that up to around 25% so can anyone offer us any advice with who to go with for the best results please?
Any help would be very very much appreciated as as I said our debt problems are worsening so this would be a great start for us.
Many thanks in advance for any help!

The best company for helping is the one you are complaining about. Most have dedicated complaints departments with staff to help you with your complaint.we were wondering if there are any reliable firms out there that can do a lot (even better most) of the leg work for us?
No. Your data on PPI is not held in the public domain. Nobody knows if you had PPI or not (let alone were mis-sold or not) apart from you and the lender.
Your credit record will show lenders you have had in the last 6 years. You can get that free of charge from noddle. You then contact each of the lenders on there using their complaints line and ask them the questions and give your complaint. However, for stuff older than 6 years, it will be your records and your memory that tells you that.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Oh dear, it probably isn't worth doing all in all then as most of the cards and loans would more than likely be over the 6 year period. It may be worth doing the credit report but Will I get spammed to death if I give my details for The free credit record to Noddle?0 -

No. Just make sure you tick the opt of of marketing boxes if they appear.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Follow the guidelines on this site if you want to use a company. Some will do research for you and take on a lot of the work in tracking down loans etc. Do not trust the company you are complaining to as being the best one to help you. Most of these complaint departments are staffed by external contractors who are target driven and look for an easy way to get rid of you.
Of course there are reliable firms out there, you just have to pick the right one0 -
What do you think has been done wrong, when and by who?
If you've got a legitimate complaint to make, that's all the info you need.0 -
never use a claims company if you have debts owing because you'll end up having to pay the claims company out of your own pocket because the company you complain to will keep it.
Follow the instructions on the how to using the closed account method if you don't have any info. The £1 method will not work on closed accounts.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Just to clarify. If you use a claims company and you already owe money to the company you are claiming from then the scenario of reducing the debt and leaving you paying the bill is true.
However if your debts are not related to the claim then the redress can be used to reduce your indebtedness elsewhere even after allowing for payment of a fee.0 -

However, the Financial Ombudsman Service recently published data which shows claims companies have LESS success than DIY complainants - and of course DIY complainants get ALL of any redress - so if the complaint is upheld they can reduced any debt more.0 -
Hi all, so just an update on where we are at. I did mine and my wife's credit record through Noddle, a very useful exercise as it gave us details of lots of credit cards and a couple of loans we knew we had, plus some cards that we had totally forgotten about. The only thing is we only had the insurance policy details for one loan with Citifinancial, so we filled in the full FOS form to send off to them and for all the other cards and loans that we had very little info we have just filled in the template letter from this website that asks the companies for our account and insurance details for closed accounts.
I will be sending 13 letters off tomorrow recorded delivery but just wanted to check that we are going the right way about this please? I guess if the above is correct then we wait until we get the account details back from the lender and check whether we paid PPI or not, then fill in the FOS form for any accounts with insurance paid?
Does this sound right? I shall hold off sending the letters until I get some responses to let me know we are going the right way about it.
Many Thanks in advance for all your help, this website is amazing!0 -
For accounts you do not have a lot of info for, contact the banks direct and ask if they can find you.
You may only need to request info for less than the 13 you have, at £10 each if you contact as many banks as possible, try and save yourself some money.
DO NOT send any by recorded delivery, send first class and get proof of posting.
You do not need the insurance details just the account number and reasons for miss sell.
Don't forget the most important thing, your reasons for mis sell!.0
