They will make a £ transfer and can't swallow the charges of the receiving bank (at least for currency conversion) and, possibly, of the intermediary ones.

I would expect they do, the minimum £115.95 Basic State Pension would have to be deposited regardless how much it cost the taxpayer in the UK to send it same as cost of pension book or direct deposit.

I would assume (given past experience)the conversion at interbank rates applies to gov departments and currency conversion is done at DWP, however yes the receiving bank may charge on the account a handling fee/rate on any currency coming from out with its host country which may be by bank terms or legislative measure.

Certainly years ago I handled a UK state pension for a resident of Spain and conversion was into Euros at interbank then sent to the Spanish bank. That may have changed by now ?
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

Sorry to repeat myself but there are no costs from having your SRP paid into a bank in another EU country - no costs and a better exchange rate than doing it yourself.

    Thanks for confirming again :)

Do you know if Turkey and its current EU Heinz 57 additions for EU part membership is considered part of the EU for DWP and/or UK SRP ? Can you help clarify either way or at best a educated guess please, you seem quite clued up than the rest of us on DWP SRP rules.

    Thanks missbiggles

Thanks for the compliment but my knowledge is based on having friends retired in France and Spain who have told me how this works for both their SRP and teachers pensions - I don't know anything about the situation in Turkey, I'm afraid.

Perhaps worth asking this on one of the expat in Turkey forums - good luck.

Yes I meant state, this is complicated by them just moving to Turkey and not telling pension agency.

He only died Saturday so no notifications.

    Puzzling!

However, whatever the case, the widow needs to contact IPC as explained in post 9 on above thread.

A country cannot be a part member of the EU any more than a woman can be a bit pregnant. It's either yes or no.

The UK has, however, a social security agreement with Turkey and the OP/their relative can get relevant information from the DWP.

Which is exactly what I was referring to and further to that given the Syria situation you will find a bit part of EU visa status changes for Turkey and thus it was possible to evaluate and ask of any changes in pensions and other changes that were not reported with the EU visa and billion euro handout to Turkey in the news, ie other details of the agreement between EU and Turkey that may involve pension changes.

    :)

If you have reason to believe that the Syria negotiations have had any impact on the previously existing social security agreement between the UK and Turkey, please do post the exact changes in that agreement as they apply fto UK citizens who retired to Turkey.

I think what you might get in reply is a post about raincoats, bar tarts and a highly unlikely account of an incident in an Abbey national branch back in the 80's

    ...or some such. :)

What do I know though? :)
