How long was your house on before it sold?

Options
I suppose I'm just looking for an idea of what's a normal middle of the range time.
Our house has been up for sale for over a week now, I know this isn't a long time but after a couple of people came to see it in the first couple of days we haven't had anyone since and I'm stressing that it won't sell.
Someone tell me I'm being ridiculous?

  • All depends where you live really. If you download firefox there is a good plugin called propertybee. If you look at your postcode, say do a search for a mile radius, then you can see with the extra property bee data how long some listing have been up, how many times they dropped their price in that time too.

Where I live it can take over a year or more for something to sell. Some people delete and readd their rightmove adds to make it look like it hasn't been sat for so long, but as I've been watching for years it is easier for me to spot this.

Property bee is interesting - very useful. Ours was on for a month before we got an offer. We'd had at least a couple of viewings a week. We're in the NW.

Thanks Another Joe, I asked for it.
Interesting to see different answers. Really looking to get an offer we can accept in the next month. Hoping it's not unrealistic.

Daisydoop, you did ask for it, and you are being ridiculous, but I apologise for not putting a smiley there, it's a very stressful time so I get where you are coming from.

But ... You do need to chill or you may be vulnerable to the first but unrealistically low offer you get. Give it a few weeks before you start to panic.

    Good luck :D

11 days for ours to have an offer we accepted.

We had 1 viewing within 24 hrs, two more within 5 days, nothing for a further 4 days then just when we started to think like you're thinking we had three more viewings (one for the second time) following day had a offer £6k below but accepted a full price offer from one of the other viewers.

Calm down, be patient. Make sure your ad contains pertinent information - make sure its on rightmove etc where it will show up (we took premium, our EA charged £45 for premium).

And it's ridiculous to expect others in different areas, with property of hugely varying types and values, to be in any way representative of what's normal.

At a guess, the sample you'd need to achieve a vaguely meaningful result would be in the tens of thousands.

Even then, some people would probably report on their experience in 2008.

    I'll spare you that! :rotfl:

last time we sold (2015) it took 15 months .Then it turned out the buyer lived around the corner .

Last time I bought (2013) the house was on the market 1 day when I asked to view it .
Every house has its buyer sometimes you have to wait to find them .

Houses are selling within one- two weeks around here (South Manchester) if they are reasonably priced. Bear in mind these are first time buyer type houses around 200k plus mark. it might be different for other areas and higher priced.

Best bet is to keep an eye out on right move.

It depends on lots of things really. Around here first time buyer houses are selling fast and more expensive houses seem to be on for longer.
