Not sure what package to take

Hi
My minimum term contract expires next month on my Sky Variety package. I stupidly took up the 25% offer on 19 March and after posting on here on another thread and after getting advice decided it was a bad deal. I was paying £36 a month reduced to £27 when I took up the 25% discount. Ive cancelled the package totally and am letting it run its course until 13 April to avoid getting charged any fees but to also give me a chance to get something else sorted. I am within the 31 days cooling off period on the 25% off deal as well. Myself and the girlfriend do watch alot of the channels like Watch, Alibi, Fox etc and i like the documentaries as well. We have a Sky Plus HD box and like the recording and on demand features. Unlike alot of the othr posters on here i dont think im signed up to Sky mailing lists which seems to be the way that other posters are getting excellent deals (50% off plus vouchers etc). Does anyone think i can get as good a deal by phoning Sky back ? How long should I leave it before contacting Sky? I just hope cancelling doesnt backfire on me.

You don't need to be on the mailing list to get offers from sky. Log in at sky.com and then go to mysky where they should have an offer for you to stay. If not, then call.

I cancelled a few days before you and I have a 50% off any package offer in mysky (which I'm not going to take as I don't watch that much tv anymore)

Are you sure about the cooling-off period on the 25% deal? There is no automatic right to a cooling-off period on a contract extension, unless Sky voluntarily grant it.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I was wondering about that too. Has the OP actually had confirmation that he has cancelled come next month?
  • If the offer was applied on the 19th of March then the cancellation must have been stopped. If it was applied later then the cancellation date would be much later than 13th April.

There is no cooling off period with recontracting offers but then again, not all offers will recontract. If the OP did accept a recontract offer they should have received an email or letter to confirm this.

Either way, something isn't right. Either there has been no offer applied or, if accepted, the cancellation would have been stopped then. If recancelled at a later date then the 30 days would apply from that date. I would recommend the OP contact Sky to find out which. That will save us having to read a "Sky billed me after I cancelled " thread in 2 weeks time or so :D

When I was on the phone with the retentions dept, the lady said I could take the 12 month contract she was offering and cancel it within 31 days if I changed my mind.

I've not taken up the offer and since then I've got 35% off when logging on to my sky online and 50% off when logging on sky service app

That is very odd, because, as mentioned above, cooling off time usually applies to new customers only.

It's not in their interests to allow you to cancel, penalty free, and then take up a cheaper offer.

I wonder if they can get negate the verbal-only offer by saying you were given the opportunity to cancel within 31 days, but this involves a penalty.

The lady assured me there was no cancellation fees. Ive already paid £36 (full price for the family pack ) on 15 March which takes me up to 15 April. I took the 25% offer out on the 19 March then cancelled on 26 March. Im actually getting a refund of £7.84 due to the way its worked out. Guess mines alittle more confusing than normal but it seems to have worked out. Just double checked with the retentions/cancellations team....theres definitely no cancellation fees on my account
