Any tips on passing a driving test?

cant give any first hand tips as i dont drive (i took lessons but soon realised i appeared to be the only person on the road who had even looked at the highway code and the things everyobe else was doing scared the crap out of me!!!)
all i can tell you is.... when my ex took his test, he did something and thought he had failed just after he came out of the test center,
so knowing he had already failed, he relaxed and just drove, did all the manouvers as asked and just resigned himself to having to try again....
and he passed,
losing all his nerves in the first few moments probably handed him an easy pass!0 -
I passed my test on my 9th go so i know how your daughter feels!!! It is such a horrible feeling as i knew i could drive (otherwise the instructor wouldn't have put me in for my test!) plus i learnt over 6 years!
In the end i went to see the dr who gave me some beta blockers which calmed me down enough not to make any stupid mitakes cos of nerves.
Been driving since feb, and even when i went out for the 1st time on my own, i didn't feel nerves anywhere near as bad as on my tests.
Oh yeah and i also was hypnostised!!!Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.0 -
I failed a few times on the RRC , but got a parallel park on my last test so passed.Since then i haven't done any of these kind of manouvres, why make life hard for myself
.Tell her not to give up though like I did, as there was 16 years between my first and last test with a massive 10 years of no driving in between.the people on the 2 pass forum are great, and you can share your fears and triumphs on there.:p
glad its not just me ! :rotfl:
I failed twice and what did i get each time ? RRC
3rd time lucky i got turn in the road and parallell park
oh and maybe just a coincidence ( in my head probably :rotfl: ) but i passed after taking kalms on the 3rd attempt
ditto my sister0 -
Also ask her instructor to write down possible test routes - most towns only have three or four and practise everything on these routes.
Also, before I took my test I did a mock test with another instructor (which I "failed"), who marked everything according to the DSA standards. I thought this helped a lot - I was probably more nervous doing the mock test than the real one
.
Good luck; she'll get there in the end.0 -
This is a great tip - although I think most towns have more than 3 or 4 routes; where I passed my test, there were about 20-ish. I think they are all online on the DSA website, so OP's daughter could look them up.

This is a good idea, actually - I think there are just 13 routes in Llanelli (still about 10 more than I'd expected) and it could be useful to follow the routes and do some manouvres along the way so at least DD will get experience of RRC on the most relevant corners.0

It seems so silly that you can fail for clipping the kerb on a reverse round a corner.
I failed 4 times. Twice were for really stupid things - doing 80mph on a dual carriageway and trying to turn right at a red light. Basically just not concentrating.
When I passed on my fifth attempt, the thing that made all the difference was that I was in my mum's car - hence no dual controls, no safety net so I was forced to concentrate. I remember a particular moment in the test where I had to turn right out of a T junction, onto a road which immediate became another T junction... not easy. Passed with 2 minors I think.*removed by forumteam - please do not advertise in signatures*0 -

The link above will give you test routes in Llanelli from the DSA website.0 -
I echo the comments about the 2 pass site. I used that when I passed my test 3 years ago. A good tip I got from there was to eat bananas before your test. May sound daft, but bananas contain potassium which aids your concentration
Worked for me after failing my test after 3 attempts 10 years ago, I passed on my 2nd attempt 3 years ago...I still say it was the 3 bananas that helped

Same happened with me on my third driving test. Had to do a RRC (even now I'm crap at them!) and scraped the kerb just as I was straightening up... drove forwards a bit and reversed... same thing happened. The examiner then told me to drive on.
I really thought I'd failed, and so I relaxed more, knowing I couldn't fail the test twice! Got the shock of my life when the examiner said I'd passed.
Good luck to your daughter, whenever she takes her next test!
