Just done a massive fridge clean toothbrush down the seals etc, out of date food, jars with a bit left in all gone. We have a cleaner but she doesn't do this kind of thing so I do it every few weeks. I sort out obvious food like veg on a weekly basis and we try not to buy more than we need.0

Hiya
At Easter and in October (to coincide with half term) I always pull out my heavier furniture (including stove and fridge-freezer) and clean behind them and Easter its downstairs curtains and October its upstairs curtains that are washed and rails given a good old dust!
Windows tend to get cleaned when I think its misty outside but not when I look out of the door!! :rotfl: Ergo about 4 times a year. I also have to wipe down the double glazed front door at least once a month as I live near a busy road and its always speckled with dusty lookin bits .
I am not neurotic but like to be clean enough too be hygienic and dirty enough to be comfortable (I expect we ve all been in those homes where we scarcely dare breathe let alone sit down!! :rotfl: )
My MIL used to clean all windows and wash all curtains once a fortnight and clean all the brass once a week! Hoover every day and change bedding twice a week in summer! Phew! she used to make me feel exhausted!

Made a start on the upstairs last week, everything out, wardrobes, chests, beds , curtains steamed, windows and frames (inside of frame) cleaned, behind radiators, lightshades and bulbs cleaned, bathroom deep clean and all tiles(floor to ceiling) washed and buffed,my wardrobe I removed 2 black bags for charity and 1 for refuse!! and the old paperwork don't get me started!!! 2 shredder bins full, on to the snug and kitchen , everything pulled out and washed floors behind/under, curtains and windows cleaned, its surprising how dusty greasy the wall clocks get? after all that I needed a few days off, so tackling the lounge and office tomorrow! lounge shouldn't take too long its very rarely used, its November time I love to wax all the wooden skirtings etc ready for xmas, I try to get all the house stuff done before the nice weather so we can spend time outdoors in our garden then, phew I need a holiday!!!!0

I do one every year around May time too, usually cleaning each room per day. Kitchen takes the longest esp cleaning the oven....why is that the hardest and longest task??? I would rather be doing other things!'Never give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about';):)0

Hiya
Tips re ovens to make them easier to clean - in case no one else has heard these:
1) put a layer of tin foil on the bottom of it such that if anything boils over then it doesnt burn on the bottom of the oven and you can change & throw away the foil when it is too gubby
2) Before you go to clean it put a big flat dish (e.g Py!ex) into the oven and pour in a kettle of boiling water into it. Leave for 10-15 mins till water is cool enough to safely remove it.
Tip 2 also works for microwaves!!
Because the steam loosens the stuck on bits BTW!
Hope this helps folks and Im not telling me Granma etc etc

Never do spring cleaning, just clean as and when it needs doing to keep on top of it. Windows need cleaning at the moment, I can still see out of them so maybe do them one at a time when I feel like it. Can think of better things to do like go for a walk, gardening, and sewing.

I'm behind on my spring clean this year, the weather is too wet and cold and I'm going to be babysitting the grandchildren for the coming week
I do like a spring clean, I turf all the cupboards and drawers out, chuck out what's not been used or worn in the past year, reorganise everything, wash any linens smelling fusty in the hot press , dust ceilings and walls, wash skirtings, doors and frames, wash the sofa covers, curtains etc etc
I like to do this as then not only do I get a spic and span home for a few months, I can also see what jobs need doing - paint touch ups, cupboard doors needing adjusting etc
I have two chimneys and yes I get a lot of dust. I do general cleaning every week, but a lot of mess is just shoved into cupboards and drawers just waiting for that spring day to come
I HATE cleaning with a passion so I have to be focused , have nothing else to distract me and just go for it0 -
