V5C When Returning A Car For Refund
Hello all, I'm returning a car I bought from a trader a couple of months ago back for a full refund. I am in possession of the V5C Registered Keeper certificate. I presume I simply need to supply this to the trader, but retain section 9 (yellow section), and send it to the DVLA?
Since I'll be doing this on the last day of the month will the DVLA cancel and refund the Vehicle Tax from the date on the slip I send them, or will they do it from the date they receive it? Would I be free to declare it SORN on the website after I transfer it, or would that be a violation? I obviously want my Vehicle Tax liability to be terminated the moment I pass the vehicle on, hence the question.
Thanks

You can now do it online instantly.0

SORN is instant, but technically it's not SORN because the dealer will be driving it away for a 6 hr journey home.0

And so, just to confirm, I only need to tear off section 9 of the V5C, get the dealer to put his name and address here and sign it before sending this to the DVLA, and he gets to retain the rest of the entire V5C document?0

No, it's the day you date the form. Always has been, way back into the mists of time.
I thought that the amount of the refund depended on when the form was posted and not when it was dated.
If this wasn't the case, what would have stopped someone dating the form for the end of the month but not actually posting the tax disc back until a few days later?0
