    Firstly eat some.

Then with the leftovers make this gorgeous, absolutely fab dish that would do you for dinner if you have a bit of a sweet tooth.

If you can make pancake batter you can do this. And just to mention you can make this dish with almost any fruit. Delicious and so easy.

    Enjoy.

  • When I am lucky enough to have an abundance of pears I make Pear and Lemon jam. This is the recipe I use - http://www.cottagesmallholder.com/pear-and-lemon-jam-recipe-93/.
It has a lovely delicate flavour with lovely hints of lemon.

I would use the conference pears to make "toffee pears" Just the same as toffee apples, and they keep for a long time.
  • Pear crumble is lovely, as is pear upside down cake.

I don't like pears much but am sometimes given them - I make a hot and spicy pear chutney to serve with other dishes and it us nice with curry.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Honestly JackieO, if you don't see yourself eating them, stew them with cinnamon and a dash of sugar, and freeze. You can then serve it to your brood after a family lunch one day.

I have a few hanging around atm, and am going to turn them into fruit custard, with an apple, red grapes and a ripe banana. Few can resist.

Hi everyone all the recipes sound brilliant I like the idea of pears with cheese I have some roquefort in the fridge I may have some as a treat tonight when watching tv. The clafouti looks good as well also the crumble ,sort of upside down cake :):):) poached in red wine Mmm sound delicious. Not a jam eater I'm afraid as I don't eat bread at all, chutney sounds good though.I am eating some tomato and chilli stuff my neighbour made at the moment and its gorgeous.I do like chutneys and wouldn't have thought of putting pears in it.
Thank you all so much for your ideas and recipes. There is more to the common pear than meets the eye obviously.Usually its something I only buy now and again but having a large pile donated to me I needed to think of a way of using them Even stewing with cinnamon and freezing sound brilliant I have some windfall apples in the freezer last week for last year that I had stewed and frozen and they made a nice change from normal puddings.I also stuck some of the stewed apples in my plain yoghurt to liven it up a bit and on top of my cereals.I shall have a play around with them this morning and see what I can do.I also have 8 plums that will be used up today in something before they get too wrinkly :):):)
Cheers everyone, a project for this weekend

I love HFW's pear and almond cake for using up pears. It's delicious hot or cold and very popular with my workmates: http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2007/oct/13/recipes.foodanddrink
