No more hassle in this part of the country, Newcastle City Council have just created a bye -law and chuggers are banned from April.
They are the first council in Uk to do this, if it really bothers you get onto your local council.0 -
They have been banned in Manchester City Centre for the past 5 Years.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I have met only one, for the RNLI and told him I don't give to large 'charities'; only to small volunteer run ones , where the money goes where it is supposed to.0

I would advise folk to Never engage with chuggers....decide which charities you want to support, do some research and make a considered decision about where and how your donations will be welcome and effective.
Personally I make it a general rule NOT to donate with charities who employ chuggers nor bother me with unsolicited "demands":A Goddess :A0 -

We give (on SWMBO's insistence) to a particular charity by DD. They once phoned up to try for more, fortunately it was me who answered and not SWMBO. I said we're not changing the donation until or unless WE decide to. I gave them an option ... call again and the DD gets cancelled; leave us alone and the DD stays. They've never called again.0 -
I usually just say my account is cash card only with no DD facility due to not having a good experian rating0

Not to mention every other advert on TV is asking for money. I get so sick of it that I record anything I want to see on commercial TV so I can just skip all the ads. By the time they've paid the TV companies and the celebrities fronting the ads, just how much of the money actually benefits those who need it?0

While in Tesco a while ago, the charity Dogs for the Blind, were situated near the entrance. It's a charity I have a lot of time for, and was going to give a cash contribution.
But no, that wasn't good enough, they wanted bank details and direct debit payments. When I refused, they totally lost interest.
This charity has lost a lot of my respect due to their arrogant behaviour.
I think lots of people would have chucked change in a bucket/tin.We give (on SWMBO's insistence) to a particular charity by DD. I had a call from a company they had passed my details on to.
Long story - but I wrote to them & said if I ever got another call asking me for more money, they could kiss Goodbye to my monthly donation.
That was some time ago & so far, it's OK.0 -
In the town I shop in, the chuggers congregate on the corner of two major shopping streets. If I need to visit a shop on the other road, I walk through a department store that has entrances in both streets. A customer that shops at my work followed me the other week and started a conversation about chuggers when I commented I bypass them through this shop. She knows others that do the same.
Then last week, a fb friend moaned about them on her fb status. Then me and a few friends commented with walk through (store).
I wonder what percentage of people that visit the store buy anythingThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I've a bit of an advantage over quite a few people when it come to "chuggers in the UK" because of where I work around the world.
On a fair few occasions, I've been approached by people (normally youngsters who you can usually tell have never been to the countries concerned) trying to collect money for a certain country or region.
Once you ask them if they have actually been to or seen the area they are collecting for, they go blank and admit that the haven't, and after a bit more of a discussion, you can see that they sometimes don't even know where in the world the place in question actually is.
I've seen charity collections for organisations where I know for a fact that the most, if not all of the money will end up I bank accounts in other parts of the world.
Don't get me wrong. I given plenty of money to different organisations, but only to charities and businesses which I know will spend the majority on aid rather than on wages or other local "fees".0
