    Turmeric and curry stains will come out if you put them in the sun. No chance of that in uk.
  • I use a 50/50 washing up liquid white vinegar solution that I put into a spray bottle, spray it on and leave for an hour or so then wash it even works on bodily fluids ifykwim ;)
    Failing that try napisan

    I managed to get OH's lab coat a beautiful shade of pale yellowy-grey, as a sock had been stuck in the washing machine.

    It was like the old ads, where the mother didn't use Persil.

    See now this is why whites are double breasted, you get a stain,,you just do them up the other side to hide the stain :)

    Mine I wash on hot with Persil bio powder ( it's best for stains) and a dash of washing soda. The only stain I have on mine still are some red dots, origins Unknown

    Turmeric is the devil to get out, but it does fade. Tbh as long as whites are white, the odd stain doesn't matter. It's those who wash their whites with other clothes turning them all different shades of grey that look disgustingly dirty

    I was going to suggest line drying in the sun, it works here in the East Midlands

    My mum used to actually boil my sister's chef whites. Really, in a pan on the stove. I don't know for how long and whether she added anything else, maybe someone else can advise. The whites did come out white.

    I seem to remember that for bleaching whites in the sun, they have to be wet or damp; if they are dry they tend to go yellow in the sun? Anyone can confirm?

    For turmeric I put lemon juice on the stain and hang it out in the sun and it will fade, I then hot wash with bio powder and soda crystals

    Thanks to you all for your suggestions - last night/today I have tackled the offending chef whites.

    :( Soaking in napisan with some oxi vanish stuff didn't work on the stains;

    :) Using washing up liquid and white vinegar sort of worked but didn't lift all of the stains

    :D So I ended up rubbing vanish soap on the stains, then soaking them overnight in a bucket of water and bleach and rinsing and washing them today, and that has done the trick. We had sun today, so they were hung out to dry and they are back to looking how they should.
    2016 is the year I am going to find time for me, and cherish the time I spend with my friends and family.
    It is also time to save - Aim £4,000 - So far this year - £230/£4,000

    These are interesting, at least with fabric which can take a very hot wash things will get better eventually. My mother used to swear by baby steriliser liquid, (there is a well-known make and lots of own labels) and add a bit of this to each white wash, also used a drop of it to make cut flower food with a bit of sugar in the water. I don't know whether this would deal with a major problem, but helps in general with keeping whites look good.
