"Tommy the Fighting Soldier" toy uniforms

Options
I wasn't sure where to post this , so apologies if it's in an inappropriate place.

Does anybody recognise this toy?

I have nine different packs of toy soldier uniforms......., labelled "Tommy the Fighting Soldier" .

I am trying to find out more about these toy uniforms, but have drawn a blank on Google.

There is absolutely no indication on the pack of who the maker is. I suspect they are a vintage/collectable, but again, I have no idea of the date. Possibly 1960s? (From the look of the pack).

There maybe some clue on the inside, but I am reluctant to open a pack; they are all in an unopened state.

This is one of them......

Does anyone recognise them from their boyhood? Or their children's?

Any help would be much appreciated.

You might do best asking on a toy forum.

I did a quick search and found Tommy Gunn. The clothing looks very similar. One link says Tommy Gunn: The Forgotten Soldier.

Is it possible that it's a cheaper version of it? Like Sindy is to Barbie. Or something relating to it?

As far as Tommy Gunn goes the clothes vary in price but there are many things under £10. It's quite possible it's something different or that Tommy Gunn is even the Sindy version, I don't know, but it might be something to go on.

Thanks. Yes, I saw the Tommy Gunn references.

You might be right about mine being a cheaper version, given that there's no maker's name on the packs.

    Curiouser and curiouser!

Is there a toy section on here, or do you mean a completely different forum?

    Different forum.

A while back I was trying to find out some details of a few toys myself. Having a brand name doesn't always help much lol.

If you google retro toy forum or collectable toy forums you should find some. I can't remember the forum(s) where I asked, will have to see if I can find a name, but I did get some answers.

To me, they look like the sort of packs I'd have expected to see in those grubby back street "full of tat" type of shops where you could buy harmonicas imported from china, or some rubber bouncing balls.

So more "generic clothes that might fit your boy doll, or they might not, but look we've printed a nice picture of a soldier on them so you'll buy them", rather than "specific to a particular brand of boy dollies"

I doubt the inside of the pack yields any further clues.

Have found this. Mentions a few toy brands who sell similar things but post 13 might be of help.

"Anyone know his name like could it be Tommy the fighting soldier, no cause salco toys made him".

There's a possible reference here to Tommy The Fighting Soldier being made by Salco Toys, ...

    Made by pedigree?
To me it looks more like the kind of thing a shop like woolworths might have sold.

http://forums.doyouremember.co.uk/forums/16-Toys is one forum I used. You might find someone on there who knows a few details.
