ADT security systems

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has any experience of ADT as a monitored alarms/home security system company?
We visited the Ideal Home Show yesterday and signed up to a monitored alarm system (we've been after one for a while and it seemed like a good deal). While we've heard of them and thought they were a reputable company, since getting home, we've found the internet alive with complaints about them, but barely a single good review!
Does anyone have any experience with them? Can you shed any light? Should we head for the hills? It's a lot of money and an 18-month contract that we'd be tied into if we go ahead...
Many thanks!

I did get a quote for an alarm from them some years ago. It was for all wireless detectors. The quote was expensive, and the ongoing costs were also.
I did not go ahead.0 -
The only experience we have is listening to next door's ADT alarm going off regularly. They've moved now & the new people have gone over to Chubb, that goes off regularly too.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Had an ADT alarm system in my old house for 5 years and didnt have 1 problem, we had the monitored system (not police response) and paid £23.59 a month, think it was an initial outlay of £49 for the equipment but that was 5 years ago.
Always got a call when I accidentally set it off (going downstairs half asleep forgetting I had part set it), it use to be a human that rang but now its an automated call which is a bit less secure as you only have to press 1 on the phone to confirm all is ok so that's a bit of a negative:beer:0 -
Don't know why you need a monitored system as most modern alarms can be set to alert you via text when triggered or a fault, and there will be no on going monthly costs0

Thanks all. It did seem like a good idea at the time, but we will be cancelling... thanks for all the input, and thank god for cool-off periods!0

I would strongly avoid them - I have been with them for 2 years. They recently came by to stick a sensor into the door using sticky tape - I was told on the phone it would not cost but then I had a bill sent for tape and 21 mins work costing £300 - several complaints later and still nothing - poor at every level0

I would definitely avoid. The alarm connects to your phoneline several times a day, costing around £10 a month. 5 years after cancelling the monitoring service they have finally admitted that this is happening and have said they'll send an engineer free of charge to disconnect it. I am now going to pursue 5 years of phone charges from them!0

One of their guys tried to sell me a 'dummy ' alarm when I lived at my previous property . I don't like cold callers knocking on my door. I just said thanks , but no thanks .0
