ah , the closest I get to private eye , is watching hislop on QI

one of the best PE quotes was

    the Arkell v. Pressdram

"In the case of Arkell v. Pressdram (1971), the plaintiff was the subject of an article relating to illicit payments, and the magazine had ample evidence to back up the article. Arkell's lawyers wrote a letter which concluded: "His attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of your reply." The magazine responded: "We acknowledge your letter of 29th April referring to Mr J. Arkell. We note that Mr Arkell's attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of our reply and would therefore be grateful if you would inform us what his attitude to damages would be, were he to learn that the nature of our reply is as follows: !!!! off." In the years following, the magazine would refer to this exchange as a euphemism for a blunt and coarse dismissal: for example, "We refer you to the reply given in the case of Arkell v. Pressdram". As with "tired and emotional" this usage has spread beyond the magazine.

    and

    29th April 1971

    Dear Sir,

We act for Mr Arkell who is Retail Credit Manager of Granada TV Rental Ltd. His attention has been drawn to an article appearing in the issue of Private Eye dated 9th April 1971 on page 4. The statements made about Mr Arkell are entirely untrue and clearly highly defamatory. We are therefore instructed to require from you immediately your proposals for dealing with the matter.

Mr Arkell's first concern is that there should be a full retraction at the earliest possible date in Private Eye and he will also want his costs paid. His attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of your reply.

    Yours,

    (Signed)

    Goodman Derrick & Co.

Dear Official TT Representative , TT UK staff don't come out at night unless it is day time where they are usually it is either Mark/Vicki/etc or one of the regular OCE's but pop us back later today

My experiences with TT shall not be aired on this forum, since this forum is a voluntary entity, and may get responses today, unlike talktalk community fora which are in real time + 2 or 3 days

Oh dear despite what I said in my last paragraph I have actually aired them ... sorry Dildo

I agree with you - I was simply asking what others thought of the ISP - which my line manager at work has suggested as an option !!
