Hazard Perception

So I finally decided to go book my theory and start up with lessons again. With the multiple choice, I do pretty well. However, with the hazard perception I seem to be missing out on points continuously by clicking too early. Why does it not mark from when the hazard actually presents itself i.e. a lorry coming down a narrow street where cars are parked on either side. I know this is going to be a hazard but the point scoring appears to start when i.e. the car has to wait behind a parked car to allow the lorry to pass. I don't get it. I'm actually starting to worry I will fail. It also tells you not to click in too much/in a pattern, so I cant click continuously when I see a hazard to ensure I pick up the marks? Argh!

well it's not a really an immediate hazard until you have to pull over behind a parked car to let it pass, otherwise you'd be waiting at the end of the street all day for cars/busses and lorrys to come down. Other hazards too such as cyclists using the pavement as a short cut to get past the lorry and then suddenly zooming out in front of you, kids running from behind parked cars, people opening car doors to get out..0

Me neither; failed all the practice ones on the DVD; doesn't make any sense to me; totally random and I've been driving 40 years.
There was a similar thread a few weeks back; might be worth looking. The advice was to press a few times once you see a hazard but not to overdo it.0 -
The hazard perception test is designed to test your ability to perceive and analyse hazards (clue is in the name really).
Overreacting early to a hazard is a problem just as not reacting enough or early enough is a problem.
Without seeing the particular clip it is hard to comment precisely, but if you are seeing the lorry early enough that it could pull up, turn off etc. long before you would have to take action, it is only a potential hazard, not a developing hazard.
Nothing worse or more frustrating on the road than driving behind someone who keeps braking for no reason...0 -
i found that the practice DVD was a lot harder then the real test. I could never get through the practice one with enough points, but passed my test first time0

I failed theory twice both times aced the questions and always fell short on the hazard perception.
I too clicked when I saw the potential hazard. I came home angry the second time and googled plenty, asked my instructor and they want you too click once it's happened and actually become a hazard. The wording is wrong.
ie, cyclist in cycle lane = fine
cyclist weaves into traffic = hazard
parent and child waiting at the curb = fine
parent drops pram down into road = hazard
So if someone is going to pull from a junction, it's not until their car has actually moved out that this becomes the hazard.
If you can spot all the hazards great, just click a second or two later and you will nail it.0 -

I did find the other thread, and picked up from there to click at the point it becomes a hazard and not just a potential hazard. I also made sure I clicked it a couple of times at that point, was able to get enough points to pass this time round. Will just need to keep at it, and hope for the best0
