I have a website, and would like to prepare a fact sheet which people could download for free. (to their email address)
I cannot find anything on the web to tell me how to do this, and was wondering if someone could help.

Easier to save the file as a pdf on your site in my opinion, they can open and save as they require.

With wordpress look for an email plugin to do the job.You may need to save your info out as an html document as a quick scan through suggests most are aimed at sending an html newsletter.
For anything to work your host needs to allow you to send emails as some won't.0 -

If I receive spam on the email address I give you can I sue you for £1,000,000?

You can set up Gmail so it'll respond with a canned answer to specific stimuli, perhaps that's the way to go? Pretty quick to implement and rugged and free solution.0

Just create a new email address for each website you register on and when someone like the OP decides to share your email without your permission you sue them and cry to your mommy etc
Take them to court and say how its ruined your life and that email address was to be your lifelong friend but now its spoiled and wont ever be the same again etc etc

Ah - Sadly I'm not in the USA. I don't need to set up any fresh email addresses either as my spam folder already has enough content to make me a billionaire if you'd just be good enough to point me to the case law you based your claim on.0
