I would love to home school our two, DH thinks I'm mad and I'm always on about selling up and living in a tiny house / motorhome / tent.

As for Cornwall, Lanhydrock is awesome. If you have Nat trust membership, there are others as well. Trebah gardens next to Glendurgan were lovely. St Michaels Mount is great for kids (two trails they can do). Eden Project is worth a visit as well. As is Lost Gardens of Heligan (we got annual passes to this for this year as it was so good when we visited)

Cotehele a bit further inland is a good day out (again Nat trust). Bethruthan Steps beach is a lovely visit if you can manage 4 littlies down the steps. Sounds like you will need 2 weeks!

We used Feather down Farms when we went. was fairly reasonable given that we went August bank holiday week!

Personally I think you're all nuts but I'm one for my creature comforts :rotfl:

Hannah it's a bit of a tough one re fixing/LTV. It might be worth seeing what the difference is between the two with some price comparisons. I wish I'd waited another two/three months before fixing as it would have bought us down below 75% but I wasn't an MSE person back then.
Chances are, in the long run, you might save more over time by paying a smidge more now in the short term and waiting to drop below 75% and get the better rates.

Edit: but I'm not an expert!

Ooooh, thank you :) I will have a look, I think it could work out well, but I will miss the peace and quiet, and its such a huge commitment, and will alter our plans for the future regarding me returning to work. He is still not 100% but much better thank you :)

Awesome, thank you very very much. All written done in my notebook! I ment St Michaels Mount when I said Marizion, I can never remember both names at the same time. Bethruthan steps ive heard of before, we carry/babywear the little ones a lot so steps arent a problem, it does look gorgeous there :)

We are National Trust members, we love it :)

I completely agree, I think we are nuts too! :rotfl: DH is dreaming of seeing the world in comfort with the kids when we are all paid off, and I agree, I want to do that too. But I might take a lot of convincing after years of watching every penny:rotfl:

Thank you for the advice, I did a bit of a comparison, and with our current company the difference between a 75% LTV fix and fixing at our current LTV was tiny, so dove in with both feet and have sent the application to fix at 2.99%, from 3.99%. I worked out, that we will save nearly £2000 over 2 years, and then we will have a better credit file and can look for a better deal elsewhere in 2 years time :T:T:T

Inspired by all you other MSE folk, I overpaid our spare council tax money from Feb on the mortgage, and made 2 tilly tidies in additon to our regular overpayment, so in total we overpaid 580.94 in March:eek: :T if only we could keep that up!! Our mortgage is currently at £96,554

I still have our March spare council tax money sat in our current account, but tempted to buy a second 6m x 3m polytunnel, as I suspect from looking at my seedlings we could fill it with peppers & tomatos.
DH finished the staging for our greenhouse today :j:j, while I tidied and weeded our strawberry bed. I have found 50 strawberry runners so far, and still have a small patch to finish! :j:jThe plan is to give a few away to friends, and build another strawberry bed, with wire cage at the allotment, but at the moment its just finding the time :rotfl:

My FIL rang to say he has planted tomatos, cucumbers, broccoli, lettuce, pumpkins, peppers and a few other things for us in his greenhouse, and told me to be ready to take delivery in around 6 weeks. He is awesome! I am a bit jealous though, as I planned to start planting today too!

My cousin is arriving tomorrow to spend a few days with us, as my DD2 is three years old on tuesday, my cousin wants to help make her cake (which I have yet to decide on:eek:, my next job, as we need to start baking tomorrow, and I need to buy ingredients and factor in to food budget )

Spent £4.95 on seeds. (Climbing french beans, sweetcorn and mint) from the household budget.

Well done on the OPs - amazing work!

I have often thought homeschooling might be a lovely experience, but then, traditional schooling offers so much opportunity for socialisation etc. I wouldn't dive lightly into the decision without weighing it all up!

Your allotment and plans sound fantastic. I am very envious!

  • Great OP :D
Plants are coming along great too.

I've not got enough patience for home schooling so never really considered it for any other reason. I would definitely love to live in the middle of nowhere though.

Just a quick one as we've just got into the hotel but I think I may have a friendly competition with you. My mortgage is at £98,284 which isn't far from your £96,554
