    Part 2.
So haveing used all the paint in the first of two plastic containers I'd bought for the job, and still being peeved with the difficulty of opening the pot and impossibility to re-seal, I cleaned up the used pot and lid and took a really close look.

The structure of the lid is such that you need prise tool with a width of not less than than 1/2" ( I opened the second pot with an old and abused blunt 1/2" wood chisel with no trouble at all ).

Resealing ? - THIS IS WHAT THE USEAGE DIRECTIONS DON'T TELL YOU
On the underside of the lid, exactly opposite the cut-out for the prise tool, there are two projecting nodules, and the lid must be offered onto the can at angle so the nodules enter the can first and go under the sealing ring on the can. With these in place the rest of lid can be pressed fully home with ease - Forget this and the lid will never seal the can.

Mountain out of a molehill! I've used countless plastic paint tins over the years and have never had any of the problems you describe. Keep it clean and a decent amount of pressure will seal them closed with no issues.

Much prefer platic lids, they don't deform when you open them, unlike metal ones.

I opened a can I've had a couple of years just last week. A quick flick open with a normal knife and paint was in good condition. Used it to cover some marks and the lid snapped back on easily.
