We had a Vaillant ecoTEC fitted last year and it has made a massive difference.

We got four quotes and although BG were the most expensive, so we went with a cheaper local supplier,I am sure the fact they can fit it when you want it is worth the extra cost to you.

Did you have to get the gas pipe from the meter to the boiler replaced? We also got a couple of new radiators fitted.

Is your ten year guarantee dependent on having an annual service with BG?

My Vaillant Combi is now 13 years old and still working ok. However I did ask the local firm which services it for me for the approx cost of a new one so I could be prepared. I was told 2K so the £3300 sounds a bit steep. I have only had 1 fault with my current one in the 10 years that i have been living here.

    Hi all,

Yep Terry, the fact they can do it when I want them to is a massive plus as I want the work done before my husband gets home this week.

And katiejo, that's wonderful news. I reckon this thing will pay for itself in six years. I also have to have the flue moved slightly to comply with current regulations and a full power flush, both of which increase the price, and yes, the 10 year guarantee is contingent on being serviced by BG which we already do, although the cost per month will plummet as the boiler is new, free in the first year in fact. Also got the £400 discount for having the work done before 31 March, which was my requirement in any case.

As promised, I've looked out the model of the current boiler. It's either a VCW GB 182 EH or 242 ditto. I think a 242 as it's quite a large house.

    Roll on Wednesday!

Apologies for not keeping up with this thread, I've been very, very busy at work.

I went for British Gas to install for several reasons:

    1. 10 year guarantee
    2. They can install before my husband gets home from Dubai
    3. Will save me £284 on maintenance in the first year
    .

How many boilers need £284 in maintenance in the first year?

That's correct, the old one (current one until Wednesday). And I expect after a year of free maintenance, the charge for maintenance will go down significantly. I'm not stressed by the cost as I feel certain I can do a 'snag list' before paying, and the ability to get this done NOW was a big issue for me.

Wondering if anyone else has experience of the model I posted as my current boiler?

Hi Lisa..I have a Vaillant EcoTEC plus 418 open vent condensing boiler recently fitted.
Will look up gas usage and post later.

Boiler installed 8/6/15. Year ending Feb 2016/8193kwh...Feb 2015/9800 and for Feb 2014 /103004. So a big improvement.
