Vaillant ecoTEC pro 30 ErP - can't wait!

I'm so excited! Today I signed on the dotted line for the above for delivery on 29/3 and installation on 30-31/3! This will replace our 29 year old Vaillant combi, the first combi model to be sold in the UK.

The cost including supply, installation, power flush, Hive control and filter is around £3300. However, in the first year we will save £268 on maintenance and if it's true that we could save up to 30% on running costs, this thing could pay for itself in 6-7 years, as we are high gas users for medical reasons.

We shall once again be at the cutting edge of boilers, hurrah!

My husband asked if there's anything it can't do. I said he'd better keep hold of me because it can't make a tuna salad sandwich like I can!:rotfl:

Will keep you posted on how it goes. For the avoidance of doubt, I have no connection with Vaillant or the installer.

Oh Phil, if you knew how much of my salary goes in fuel payments you would understand! My husband has congestive heart failure which means his circulation is very poor and he feels cold all the time. (I just swelter in our home.) Having an A rated boiler rather than a G rated one will make it much easier for me to pay the fuel bills. I'm not saying we're fuel poor or that he is not warm enough in our home, but we use 100% more than the average for a home in the UK. According to my calculations, this boiler should pay for itself in just over six years, and if it does then the return will be much better than if I'd put the money in my ISA on 4 April and I'll be able to fill my IsA by about June anyway (got my ISA money ready, but will have to pinch £3k of it for the boiler, temporarily).

It's a shame you didn't get some more quotes at nearly £2k labour to install it I bet they are happier than you, I presume they are Vailliant advance installers so you can get the extra free warentee ?

Hope it all goes well though & would be good to see your report on how it goes
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

    As above on the cost.

Is yours the old VCW 20? A truly gorgeous bit of kit for its day.

Good luck with the new one but don't expect another 29 years out of it.

My boiler is a combi and is 39 years old... An Ideal Sprint 80. Are you sure that the Vailent was the first?
  • Why doesn't your husband wear another layer of clothes so you don't wastefully heat your house?Or maybe the insulation of your property can be improved.

Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Was there any reason you went for the Hive rather than Vaillant's own vsmart system?

I've been looking at vsmart as it's supposed to save money by adjusting the boiler to the weather conditions outside, but I don't know anyone with it.

Apologies for not keeping up with this thread, I've been very, very busy at work.

I went for British Gas to install for several reasons:

    1. 10 year guarantee
    2. They can install before my husband gets home from Dubai
    3. Will save me £284 on maintenance in the first year

The Hive thing, I was advised by a gas engineer that it works better than the other option. I think it's going to be quite amusing, I can foresee my husband putting the temperature up at home and me reducing it from work!

As regards 'putting on another jumper', he has congestive heart failure which is an on-going and progressive condition and in his condition, he has a right to feel warm in the home he provided for us so well when he was younger. The increased level of warmth is what the Winter Fuel Allowance is spent on.

Absolutely amazed that a poster has a 39 year old combi! I was truly told that ours was the first model sold in e UK. It appears I may be wrong. I'll look out the paperwork for the current one and post the model when I have time. And yes, it's been a faithful friend, but it is getting old and time for it to be retired.

    Thanks everyone for your comments.
