Mirena Coil - after effects

The depo is also (synthetic) progesterone. If Becles can't tolerate the Mirena that is likely to be even worse

That doesn't explain why my wife couldn't tolerate the Mirena either (because of the same problems as Becles) but was perfectly happy with the Depo for eight years before that.0 -
I'm just scared of the depo as there is no reversal from it.
If I don't get on with it which is a possibility given my experience with the mini pill and this coil, then I'm stuck with the side effects for a few months until it wears off. Here I go again on my own....0 -
It's gone!
I went to see the GP yesterday and explained how I was feeling and how I was sick of all the side effects and was still bleeding so she agreed it was best to take it out.
The actual process was fine. Just felt a tiny scratch as it was removed and it was all done within a few seconds.
She mentioned the depo and the implant but I said after this and the experience with the mini pill, I'm scared of putting more hormones in my body. She agreed with my fears, especially with the depo as you can't get that back out if you react badly to it.
I also have crohns disease and was booked to have bloods taken this morning. The GP is going to check the results of that to see if anything else is going on there. She'll ring me if anything untoward is found. Otherwise she said give it three months to see if things settle down and keep a diary of symptoms and bleeding. I've got to book an appointment a week after my October bloods so she can look at those as well.
I know it's early days yet, but I did feel a little better today. The pain wasn't as bad, I felt less nauseous and I didn't get the midday slump when I just want to pack in work and go home! I feel really calm and happy and not a nervous anxious wreck like I have been feeling. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I was told the depo was only recommended for a maximum of two years, due to the risk of bone loss.
I tried the mini pill (two different ones) years ago which is the same drug type as mirena and it was a nightmare. I had my period non stop for 9 months! Also, it made me seriously irritable. I think back and can't believe how bad I was. It wasn't like me at all. The doctor wouldn't let me try another until I'd given it 6 months, but once the second one caused the same issues, I decided enough was enough.
I recently asked my gynaecologist about getting a mirena but he thought I would have similar problems to when I was on the mini pill and wasn't keen to do it. This is contrary to what I'd read about it being a reduced dose and not causing the side effects etc, but I trust that he has knows what he's talking about.
I've been given tranexamic acid though I haven't started it yet. He has offered to do an endometrial ablation if these drugs don't help. Of course neither of these is a contraceptive so my partner is meant to be getting the snip. So he says anyway. He hasn't even made an appointment. :rotfl:0 -
I couldn't get on with any type of contraception pill/coil etc and I've also been offered ablation but I was in a lot of pain just with a basic D&C/coil insertion so chickened out. Contraception was sorted out by my partner having the snip, which whilst not stopping my period issues has at least stopped the chance of any 'accidental pregnancies'.0

Oh I forgot that bit! I'm already more at risk of osteoporosis because of the crohns so that fact scared me as well.
It's ablation that the GP talked about referring me for. I don't want to get pregnant so I think it might be the best option for me.Here I go again on my own....0
