Three flights with Etihad

Recently flew from Manchester to Koh Samui vie Abu Dhabi and Bangkok. with Etihad
The flight from Abu Dhabi to Bangkok was delayed and we missed our flight to Koh Samui so we were put on later flight and arrived 3.5 hours later than scheduled. Have contacted Etihad about compensation but they say that because the delay was at Abu Dhabi and therefore not an EU airport we are not entitled to compensation but they will give us 5,000 Etihad miles. The three flights were booked on one ticket so are we entitled to EU compensation.

There have been a number of similar tales on the non-EU airlines thread
Emirates have also defended a number of similar situations in court and won. NWNF will not take these cases on.
Your delayed flight was from non-EU to non-EU on non-EU airline so is not governed by EU261...had the flight from the UK been delayed and you ended up missing the connecting flight then, depending on reason for delay, compensation may have applied0 -
The flight from Abu Dhabi was a Etihad flight from Dublin which was delayed at Dublin for at least 1.5 hours when it landed at Abu Dhabi it discharged its passengers refueled and took on us and other passengers' to fly to Bangkok. So the delay was caused at a EU airport surly this will make a difference? reason wee heard for the delay was a technical fault.0

It will make a difference to those passengers that joined the flight in Dublin if they were delayed to their final destination as they will be covered under EU261, but has no impact to your case as you were not a passenger on that flight
You were delayed on a flight fully outside the EU on a non-EU airline. Where the plane was before your flight is irrelevant0
