Utility Warehouse bill question

I have stayed out of anti Utility Warehouse threads, but your post is typical of the propaganda(for want of a better word) used by their reps.

I switch from British Gas Dual Fuel to Utility Warehouse and my bills have fallen from £50 per month to £33. I've also changed by phone from BT to utility Warehouse and thats fallen from £30 per month to £15 (on average).

If thats propaganda then I'm happier listening to it than your advice (as you don't seem to know what you're talking about).

    Welcome to the forum.

Interesting that you join MSE today specifically to praise Utility Warehouse. A fairly common practice; and I suspect not many will be taken in by your contribution. Still agents need to make a living I suppose.

However would you care to be specific about why I "don't seem to know what I am talking about?"

Do you mean your bills or your monthly direct debits have reduced? See Cardew's posts above if you're not sure of the difference.

Everyone seems has to join at some time or another and everyone has to make a first post. Because mine does not agree with you does not make it any less valid. Its also a bit of very faulty reasoning to think I registered simply to "praise Utility Warehouse".

I'm Utility Warehouse customer and am very happy with them. Yes, they are not perfect but they are much better than other suppliers I have used in the past. The reason I said that you don't seem to know what you are talking about it that you seem to make claims against them with no proof to back them up. Fact and opinion are two things which should always be kept separate.
  • Do you mean your bills or your monthly direct debits have reduced?

It was bills, the monthly DDs were slightly under so we had quite a shock when we actually switched!
  • The meter readings are correct with the bill. I signed up via there web site. I have just again spoken to someone else who has the same supplier he has been with them longer than me and still pays £30ish a month for his, same size house as me and same number of people in it, if anything mine should be less as he has a lot more equipment that is on most of the time than i do.
The thing i dont get, is why is it a fixed price ? why not based on the amount of electric i used .
According to my bill for 1 month :
    Usage 337
    KwH 337
    Price per Kwh 9.469
    Net Cost £31.91

The above is on the back of the bill yet on the front it says:

    Electricity £46.00
    Membership £1.50
    Vat £2.56
    Total £50.06
  • I used to be a distributor for this company, I personally would not recommend them to anyone! I've seen both sides and believe me, do not go anywhere near them. I tried to switch after being with them for 3 years. My bills were horrendous, including mobile bills which were not that bad, some months the bill was over £800!! Anyone would have been cheaper than them.

Most of their so called customer service staff are rude and untrained. They cut corners by not advertising or having massive CS teams but the ones they have border on illiterate (better make sure I spell that right! :rotfl: )

Anyway, long story short, they suddenly came up with a bill for £3300 that they said I had to pay in order to switch. No explanation beyond that it was a budget tariff (gas and electricity close to £200 and over each month!) and that there was a deficit.

I am in the process of lodging a formal complaint with Ofcom (I think) and fighting them every step of the way.

Any help or advice gladly accepted!

I've checked my last bill and the usage and front cost match, so there is obviously a discrepancy that needs looking into there.

As a fellow customer & distributor for UWDC I am very happy with them. As for your bill Duncan you need to contact customer services or get the distributor who signed you up to look into it. My gas / elec bills don't change until one year after my anniversary date because I use the budget plan. Companies do make mistakes and UW is no exception but I really do get fed up with nasty comments from people who either don't know what they are talking about or have some hidden agenda. That's not a defence of UW it is a general comment. If you are unhappy about something you do something about it. You don't moan and whine.

As for me I will never go back to any other company not because they are cheaper or dearer than anyone else but because it offers me and many thousands of people something That BT, Talk Talk, British Gas etc can't offer. And if you don't know what that is then do some research. The comments about 'agents' is testament to this.

As for the ex distributor. I'd love to know why you an ex distributor. I can guess why. It's OK saying you've seen both sides but there are 20,000 distributors and over 240,000 customers. They are still here without having to advertising. QED
