Meanwhile, the Scottish Conservatives won 276 seats - 22.5% of the total - after receiving 478,073 first preference votes.

In 2012 the Tories won just 115 seats and received 206,599 votes - a 13.3% share.

25.3 % for the Tories. That's on par with Corbyn's performance in the UK polls right now just for context. Scottish Labour seems quite resilient though. Wonder how many of those will hold their noses and vote SNP in a few weeks time.

My local area Facebook ( not the rampant unionists ) is full of folks horrified that the Tories are making gains and considering it.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

    Course it is :D

    NOT!

Keep the spin coming, it's predictable now. :)

ps This is the SNP propaganda department equivalent of David Cameron's, "I met a black man....".

    :)

Oh no no. Now you're just making stuff up.

When you request annual leave from someone who can approve it at work you don't then inherit the right to take leave whenever you ask for it regardless.

    Westminster can say no.
Westminster can indeed say no. But will have to give a reason for that no if challenged in court. Especially given it didn't say no that last time.

You keep confusing politics with legalities.

If I wanted to spin. I'd pick somewhere a little more receptive than this forum I can assure you.

    Quite.

Amongst NO voters Independence is hated far in excess of the Tory party.

To suggest that Labour voters will be "holding their noses and voting SNP" is, to anyone who actually lives up here, laughable.

Pro indy posters on here raise taking the P to a whole new level.

Suspect that an election has wrong footed them. As has changed the topic of conversation to matters which people themselves really do care about.

Is two local town pages I follow ( from where I am from originally ). They were just discussing the local elections, councillors and results. They're not particularly politically engaged and the pages are more generally used for asking where the best takeaway is, old town photos, finding old friends, events and that sort of thing.

Yes, there was definitely a fair lot of concern going on. These are old Labour heartland types of places. Many have voted Labour for years to keep the Tories out and are reconsidering. While there's been an obvious backlash against the SNP and another indy ref. There' going to be another one against the Tories gaining ground from those who've only realised it's happening over the last few days due to the the council elections. That and how far Labour have fallen.

And from the tv coverage up here over the last few days Sturgeon has already started utilising the below advice.
Nicola Sturgeon needs to retoxify the Tories. It shouldn’t be too difficult...May seems to be adopting the imperious mantle of Margaret Thatcher and she could be in power for another decade. Scots haven’t forgotten the Iron Lady, but they could do with being reminded about her in a few selected billboards.

..Scottish voters need to be reminded that every vote for the Tories is a vote, not for Ruth Davidson, but for Theresa May.
