Why; a saltire against a backdrop of Scottish scenery, what's not to like?

People who are anti-nationalist don't hate Scotland you know, in fact you could reasonably make a case for saying they care more, as they seek to avoid the consequences of a break from rUK.

Sometimes I think there can be a real lack of depth with regard to the thinking and logic on this thread.

Have you read some of the comments on twitter about the RBS advert? Or the outrage about Poppy Scotland? Granted it is just a small group of people on twitter, but it is quite enlightening.

St Andrews is an odd one, always been a normal working day. There used to be an Open Doors day but not sure if they're doing it this year. Only memory of doing anything special for St Andrews Day was making a Scottish flag in primary school - imagine the outrage on twitter nowadays ;)

This reeks of child like "chip on the shoulder-ism", and has no basis in the truth.

Bit like the propaganda back in the 80's that kids couldn't sing "Baa Baa Black Sheep".

There won't be a single school in Scotland today where kids are discouraged from making a saltire, (as you did).

    Just a reminder....

    We have a Scottish Parliment,

We are over represented in Westminster.

We recieve more money per head of population than other parts of uk.

The BBC and other Uk media give a disproportionate amount of airtime to Sturgeon, Indyref2 etc etc than is warranted gto the detriment of the opposing view.

So. No need for the sentiment in the last few posts.

People in Scotland are NOT discriminated within the UK as a whole.

And that goes for the kids who want to draw flags today! :)

Oh I can imagine the outrage lol

The current argument doing the rounds being the whole projecting a saltire onto public buildings not being allowed but the union flag having been allowed it's just ... meh. .. head shaking

Enjoy, haven't seen The Levellers for years and didn't realise they were still on the go!

Beecher2, I don't read twitter, and am happy not to be exposed to it.

Consequently, the content of twitter does not make any contribution to my "view of the world", which is formed by personal experience, values, and an ability to indulge in independent thought, (he said ambitiously!) :)

Please don't take this the wrong way as it's meant in a spirit of friendship; wouldn't you feel better not exposing yourself to views and opinions you find toxic on an hour by hour basis?

Even try it for a bit?

Nope wrong country :) although no doubt there will be an accordion played somewhere ... bagpipes also ... but then there should also be a didgeridoo as well

I like twitter, it gives me links to articles I wouldn't otherwise find and gives me updates on breaking news, as well as information on what's going on where I live. I have to admit to finding some posters on twitter quite fascinating though, so although I don't follow them, it is interesting to read what the likes of historywoman is saying and thinking. I'm aware that is shows the extremes of life though, and certainly don't look at it hour by hour. I come into contact with a great many real people instead, thankfully :)

I think it is interesting to know how others think, and sometimes this thread gives a bit of an insight though there is a little bit too much of people assuming others are stupid or showing 'a lack of depth' because they don't agree.

Okay, I understand why people enjoy twitter, but would question where it fits in any heirarcy of places to find out "what's going on", from a reliability perspective.

I think philosophically, I am now much different from my 20's, 30's and 40's, (maybe you will be too :)), so day to day "news" is often irrelevant to my long term life goals.

I know we disagree on the indy thing; I genuinely think it's a pity that you would give headspace to some random (?nutter's) opinion on an RBS advert or Poppy Scotland.

ps Have gone off topic, apologies :)

I don't think Theresa May could hope to get the same warm reaction that Nicola Sturgeon did.

That's your guess. I'm willing to wait and see.

Neither of us really know, it's idle speculation at this stage.
