Well whinging seems to be working for them ... it's getting more stuff for Scotland ... they have done some good since they came in... I do wonder where on earth the money tree is hidden tbh ... but they are doing good , free school meals for p1 to p3 is good and so is free meals for nursery kids

Free prescriptions is good ( although I would be happier if we had a system that allowed people to pay something if they could afford to)

The toll bridges being free has saved some people a fortune, it's the wee things that are making life better... they still have a long way to go and I certainly don't agree with everything they do... but what did Labour do for us when they were in charge ?

No bad job? They are pulling the wool over the eyes of people like you who are ignorant as to the consequences of their fiscal management.

    ;)

London. The extra money Scotland gets over England is directly financed by rich Londoners.

Analysis of HM Revenue & Customs figures published this week revealed that income tax paid per person in London and the Southeast rose by 14 per cent over these three years, compared to 9 per cent in the rest of the UK. The London-led recovery has fuelled rising tax liabilities on the back of fast-growing self-employment earnings and income from property and investments, which have outpaced other regions.

In 2013-14, the most recent year for which official figures are available, Londoners had average income tax bills of £9,772 — almost three times more than taxpayers in north-east England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

This rise in taxes for Scots will go some small way to redressing the balance. As there are an estimated 366,000 top rate taxpayers in Scotland, most of whom will pay £400 a year more than their English equivalents, the total Scottish tax take will rise by something less than £146,400,000 compared to if the Scots kept the same income tax regime as London. That's assuming that the Laffer Curve doesn't kick in: the effect of increases in marginal tax rates to reduce total tax take.

Given that GERS is likely to show a worse deficit in 2015-16 than the rather shocking £15bn for 2014-15 then it does look like a drop in the North Atlantic however the Scottish Government does need to start somewhere if independence is to be anything other than a pipe dream.

Nah see I ain't gonna buy that you can show me graphs for ever ... I know that very often money that comes from Scotland doesn't get classed as Scottish ( whisky taxes etc) for every bit of proof you have the indy has a bit as well ... this argument goes round and round ... you know this though :)

The other thing to remember is the UK's debt ain't exactly £0 so the UK is getting it from somewhere as well ;)

Not to worry once indy happens you can breathe a sigh of relief ... wonder what form the whinging about Scotland being such a drain on London will take then ;)

Once independence happens, the English will be upset about the migrants from scotland (both born there and those attracted as an indirect way of getting to England) and all the scottish NHS tourists when scotland can no longer afford its NHS.
So sadly, no sigh of relief, as the Scots will still sponge off the English and we will allow this as we are decent people who don't sing songs about killing our neighbours.

The New Fat Scotland 'Thanks for all the Fish' Thread....

As far as I'm aware; 'So long and thanks for all the fish' was what the dolphins said when they decided to abandon Earth just before the Vogon fleet destroyed it in order to make way for a hyperspace bypass.

It is not very clear who it is the OP thinks is going to destroy Scotland, or who it is will be abandoning Scotland to avoid this catastrophe.

    Answers on a postcard.

Oh and while we're on the subject of Scottish finances, it looks like Scotland's oil revenue is going to go negative.

If we assume that revenues in the rest of the economy are going up with CPI (not an unreasonable assumption IMHO) then revenues will be about £52bn in 2015-6. If half of Government spending rises with inflation and half with wages then spending will rise to somewhere in the region of £69bn. Thus I predict that the GERS deficit on a rough and ready basis will be in the region of £17bn. The risk is probably that I understate a little due to the 'tripe lock' on pensions and Scotland spending £9bn a year on pensions (per GERS).

    What whisky taxes?

Excise duty and VAT on whisky sold in Scotland are included in GERS as is Corporation Tax paid by Scottish distillers.

There is no export duty on whisky.

What exactly do you believe is left out of GERS from whisky sales?

Aye I dinna ney bother me self with facts ;)

I prefer to make silly ignorant statements followed by winky faces because I am not able to provide any factual basis of logical reasoning for the opinions I hold ;)

Using winky faces and repeating rhetoric however makes me feel good as I've convinced myself I am right and the winky face implies some form of higher awareness and/or knowledge that for some reason iam declining to share despite numerous invitations to do so ;)

If there was actually any basis to my position I would have shot you all down a long time a go ;)
