I forgot to mention that when I'm very tired, I almost lose the power of speech altogether. But I can still type, and rarely 'lose' my words then.
I was helping at a conference, and someone wanted me to tell them how to do a mail-merge to produce the name badges. I started trying, but just couldn't get it out. After a few attempts, I just said "let me sit down and just do it." I'm sure he didn't believe I could do anything, I'd looked like a complete nincompoop, but my fingers knew what they were doing straight away, and I just did it!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I know someone who struggles with memory/brain fog through a B12 deficiency. They know when their next injection is due as the fog reappears. Could be worth having more than just your thyroid tested by the doctor, in case there's a deficiency of some kind at play.0

Word selection anomia - it's a type of anomic aphasia (google it).
I'm late 20s and suffer the same!
Maybe it feels like it's getting worse because you're worrying about it?0 -
For a variety of reasons I keep finding clothes pegs around the house (2 year old grandson, mostly!) The number of times I've picked one up, put it in my pocket to take downstairs and found it still in my pocket later is immense! I wanted to charge up a toothbrush, charger is upstairs, and it's taken me 2 days to remember to do it. It'll probably take me two days to get it back downstairs.
I quite often write out a 'to-do' list of things I must do the following day, perhaps that will help some people? Of course, it helps if you remember to read it!0 -
It's a condition called Nominal Aphasia and if you Google it you will find lots of references to it. It's more common than you would imagine, and does seem to get worse as one gets older.
There is a lovely poem called Nominal Aphasia by Christine Webb. (Google it). You have to read it rather carefully but it gives exactly the sense of how we struggle in vain to find some of the various words our brain is searching for.0 -
I don't want to suggest a diagnosis - you need to see your doctor. However a lady at my work has similar problem and she has been diagnosed with Chronic fatigue syndrome
http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Chronic-fatigue-syndrome/Pages/Symptoms.aspx symptoms include poor short-term memory and concentration, and difficulty organising thoughts and finding the right words ("brain fog")❤️Mum 2018

If it makes you feel better, I went to put the milk in the cupboard instead of the fridge at work today.
And yesterday, my BF and I were hunting round the entire house for the bin from the lounge which he'd emptied earlier. It's a big brown faux-leather/suede solid bin. Can't miss it. I said he must have chucked it out with the rubbish and he was insistent he hadn't, and checked the wheelie bin outside. We looked high and low and concluded he must have left it outside and someone had taken it (weird), but then he had one last look in the wheelie bins and found it in one he'd already checked.
The mind is a very strange thing...
