Virgin Money Transfer Rip Off

applied for 4k transfer direct to my bank account and took the 4% (£160) expensive hit for one reason and one reason only---to get 40 months interest free. Now told by Virgin that I have applied on the web for an 18month card. I explained there is absolutely no reason on Gods earth that I would have done this as it makes zero sense to 'buy' such an expensive option. At the time they were heavily pushing this 40 month deal. It may be that somehow on their website I failed to tick a correct box but I smell a rat here. Anybody else had this experience?

Did you take any screenshots or can prove what you have said?0

Look at your pre credit agreement this will show you what was applied for0

Doesn't sound like a rip off.
Sounds like user error or a legitimate downsell.0 -
Virgin are one of the providers who won't down-sell you a product. E.g. with Halifax if you apply for one of their cards and you don't meet their 'top' criteria, they will offer you a reduced number of months and/or higher interest rate. With Virgin, if you apply for a card and don't meet their criteria - you will get a straight decline.
Here is their press release:

Did you apply before 16 December 2015?
Have you checked your e-mail acceptance to see what card you had applied for?I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Similar thing happened to me - I applied for a balance transfer card and was charged interest in the first month - I rang them and they said I had applied for the low rate card and that it was my mistake which it wasn't - but I didn't take screen shots when I applied. I moved the balance off elsewhere and closed the account.Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0
