all depends on the airline , I have upcoming flight in april for £420 with Etihad , I could of got cheaper with Air China for £350 but not good departure times

Lousy departure times, and lengthy flight transit times, as well as being tiring can cost a lot of money which you ought to factor in with your flight cost.

For the reasons above I'd avoid Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, and any that go via China. I'd also avoid Abu Dhabi [Etihad Air] too. Etihad are good in the air, but lousy ground support. Don't like Dubai Airport either.

Favourites via a hub are Oman [Muscat] and Qatar [Doha]. Flown direct with Eva Air, but it's nice to have a break half-way and stretch your legs. Also flown direct with Thomson on their Dreamliner, but they only fly direct to Phuket.

Don't stay for more than 2 or 3 nights in Bangkok, it's 24/7 in your face, some like the place and many don't, but there some excellent must-do things to do on a first-time visit.

Make sure your Bangkok accommodation is close to the Skytrain or Underground or Chao Phraya River.

Make sure you have your final overnight in Bangkok so that you aren't worrying about internal travel on the day you fly home.

Time it right and business class returns for £1k might be achievable.
