Wondering if anyone can help please?
I think I've seen on MSE a link for a website where you can input your postcode and it displays the speed on a map what other broadband users in your area are obtaining.
Wondering if anyone can provide the link?
Thank you

Note it does not mean that's what you will get .0

Try this one - http://maps.thinkbroadband.com/?utm_source=mainsite&utm_medium=navigation&utm_campaign=maps&utm_content=sidebar#!lat=55.37805099893188&lng=-3.43597299999999&zoom=6&type=terrain
The map is of actual speedtests ran by people using the think broadband speedtest.0 -
That shows in my area speeds from 1.45 meg to 40.80 meg .0

Some areas will have virgin, some people won't have upgraded to "fibre" (VDSL2) and will be using slower ADSL services and some tests are done on mobile networks.
On top of that you'll have some tests done wired, some wireless. No forgetting internal set up and wiring issues within the home can greatly impact the speed that xDSL services connect at. It does however give a true representation of the speeds that customers are getting in those areas where tests have been ran.
If you click into the speed it shows the results per provider.0 -

Thats the key if all the tests are from the master socket via ethernet they are true . But from the garden shed via a congested channel wifi no.0 -
The real question is why do you want the info. If it's for a property you are already in then ISP speed estimates will be the best bet if it is down to house hunting then the second link shows fastest available but for my area doesn't show typical ADSL speeds because VM and FTTC are both available. If you need ADSL speed then use an ISP estimate based on postcodeor better yet a phone number either of the property or nearby.
Because of the complete lack of any control over the tests done I'd say the first link is pretty mush useless.0 -
Thanks everyone for the information.
We're in a fibre area with PlusNet and quite happy to be getting speeds of approximately 65 mbps.
The information is wanted for a friend who wants to change to a faster ISP with unlimited bandwidth allowance. I had found best prices for her, using the Broadband Postcode speed checker, but wasn't sure which website gave details of other broadband users within the area, and the speeds they were getting.
Thanks everyone for your help and information, the websites listed should give her an idea of average speeds in her area.
Much appreciated.0
