I'm not sure who the 'they' are you refer to but assuming it is the flood of migrants that have driven house sky high and made it almost impossible for many ordinary working people to live in a family house, then I agree.

Price is the result of supply and demand
demand for somewhere to live, is determined by the number of people wnat to live there
in London/SE a major component of people is the 3 million immigrants in London

If all 3 million were sent home would things just settle back to normal or would people from the rest of the uk flood south to fill the vacancies?

I'm sure any economist would predict that some would come from other places in the UK, but one would expect the total would be less.

In any event it would be better for the citizens of the UK as, either UK people previously unable to live in the capital now could do so, and/or there would be fewer in total so living conditions would better and prices lower.
I would see this as a benefit for the UK people : I recognise that doesn't mean the other 8,000 million people on earth are better off.

Obviously not every thread has to be about immigration.

Where did you find an extra milliard people BTW?

What would happen to my terrace house in stoke I bought for £40k would I have to pay someone to take the liability off me once the immigrants who support the £40k prices disappear?

Yes, we could talk about the price and availability of property in London without mentioning demand.
It would certainly make you mainstream with the BBC, the Guardian, the media and most politicians.
Why you would want to do that is a mystery : however if it conflicts with the new orthodoxy I guess some would wish to avoid the issue as being too radical.

Maybe the extra half milliard can explain the low level of immigration to Aus.

Presumably you are referring to the fact that high house prices caused by high immigration is a huge benefit to older people and a crippling burden to the young.
Personally, I view drop in asset prices is a price well worth paying for a large improvement in the living standards of the majority especially the young.
Better housing standards, shorter time servicing work, prospect of real increase in pay etc.....

We have discussed demand for housing many, many, many times.

Australia has a higher rate of immigration than the UK. Although apparently we only accept brain surgeons*.

*This is not true. Gardeners' labourers and recruitment consultants are on the list of 'skilled' migrants.

They don't seem to realise that they are the demand that leads to high prices.

To be fair, I think that they probably do realise that. What I suspect they are doing, is highlighting the problems caused on the supply side, with a hope that something will be done about it.
