I was just going to humour him ,

Broadband is exchange specific, so use samknows.com to find out the LLU options on your exchange-there is no universal 'best'.
Is there an existing landline in the property? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Are there any other widely available LLU providers than Sky or TalkTalk these days? TBH I'd have difficulty recommending either of them. I think the days of LLU is best are now sadly over and we mostly have to accept the tyranny of OpenReach / BTWholesale or take a chance on cable which can vary from brilliant to abysmal to not available depending on your location.0

Does this mean that the 50mb connection only connected at about 16mb if the difference was not noticable?
Agree about ethernet being better than wifi but I prefer a desktop over a laptop for home use (ie where portability is not required)
it did connect at just under 50Mb/s, but I only use the internet for streaming tv (Netflix etc) and a few non-intensive MMORPGs. I think it might only make a real difference if your downloading very large files on a regular basis, or a big gamer and need to have as low a latency as possible. but for an average user like me, 16mb/s is more than enough.
If its a large one-off 20Gb download like a game, I would just start it before I go to bed and when I wake up it's finished#141 - Save £3k in 2016 challenge - #141
