Same as for a 4 bedroom house

It comes down to personal choice

    Plusnet would be my choice

wont make a lot of difference if its one bedroom , two or a 5 floor house,

    2 common choices are available

1: virgin media , via their cable network

2: adsl/fibre supplied by many companies using the BT cable structure.

so , questions , is virgin or BT available (is/are their any sockets)

do you need fibre speeds or will a slower ADSL speed suffice

I'm sure that TalkTalk do a 'one bedroom flat' connection, especially for your area.

    ;)

Don't see why it would make a difference, the only problem your likely to have is crowded WiFi channels.
My brother had a flat years ago and his WiFi never worked properly, just too many may neighbours close by, his laptop just kept trying to connect to every WiFi it could find.

The wifi signal from other flats will generally be quite weak compared with your own wifi. Even if the router is in another room the signal will easily go through internal walls but structural walls and floors between flats will be a lot thicker and block a lot of the signal strength.

Plus with a one bed flat probably being within a few meters of the AP is going to help.

Can you ask other residents about their experiences?

It also depends on the way Broadband is delivered to the location: ADSL (just through the line) - VDSL (via FTTC, Fibre To The Cabinet, from the BT cabinet to a cable and then your line) or cable. Ask around other residents.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.
  • unless u have a laptop, don't worry about wifi. just plug a desktop in with an ethernet cable directly. Go for whichever supplier is cheapest, I was with Virgin media on a 50Mb/s cable connection, then switched to plusnet on a 16Mb/s ADSL connection, absolutely no noticeable difference in connection speed (apart from first couple of days when it always varies with ADSL until it settles down) and I'm saving about £15/month

Does this mean that the 50mb connection only connected at about 16mb if the difference was not noticable?

Agree about ethernet being better than wifi but I prefer a desktop over a laptop for home use (ie where portability is not required)

He's probably talking about latency - the time it takes (for example) for the bbc web page to appear, whereas downloads would be 3x quicker with a 50mb pipe.
