Wifi/connection
Hi, I have bought a Samsung 5 phone and can happily connect to Wifi at home and in Wetherspoons, thereby saving using my data useage.
If I go (anywhere) elsewhere, I need to find (how), the wifi currently being used there, and enter (where?), the number on the router, and the email password - is that true, or should it just connect to the nearest wifi source. (that would be nice)
(Went to my sisters house and tried this with a tablet that I had bought, but she couldn't get the hang of the upper/lower case keyboard and wouldn't give me the password for me to type in ! Duh)

It'll try to connect then if it's not free wifi it will ask you for the password/security code.
Some free wifi requires a log in, but after you've logged In and connected it should remember you in the future. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
"it will ask you for the password/security code."
So, I am standing in my sisters house. She knows she has a router (wifi) but nothing else, not even who she is with. So how do I pick up HER wifi ? Does it show up automatically on the phone screen ? What about if there is wifi next door. How do I distinguish ?
It will ask me for the number on the router and her email password - yes ?0 -
Your sisters WiFi will show on the screen .
Usually as the ISP OR The router .
Like Sky 1234 BT HH5.
It will ask you for the WiFi password she has set the router up with .
Email is not the router .
If she has not set up a password then it will be the pass that was sent out with the router .
Could be on a card/ back of the router .0 -
I doubt she has set up a password (I havent/have never been 'asked')
My router says shows SKY ^^^^^
SSID 12345678
So I would look on hers and just enter the similar details then ?0 -
Exactly right.
You would just be looking for the router SSID that you recognise, then enter the appropriate password.0 -
If she has not set a password then it will be the one with the box like zz234hhdf48755ku9.0
-
The ssid is the password. ? Assuming no other set. Box has long gone0

No, the SSID is the name of the router as it appears in the list of available wifi networks shown on your device (in non technical terms) there will also be a password set somewhere that will need to be entered.0 -
On the back of the router where the connections go in the first set of letters and numbers is the router name ie SKY12345. The next one down is the password, enter exactly the same as printed on the router. Mine is all numbers, however it could be all letters or a mixture of both. It should say Router name and pasword.0
