Ask your foreign bank what their exchange rate is from EUR->GBP. I get much better rates from my German bank than my UK bank, so it makes sense to transfer large amounts in GBP, converting abroad. For me it was something like the 0.25% difference from the mid market rate plus 12.50 euro charge for the transfer. This was much cheaper than the currency brokers I could find. Using a bank-to-bank transfer is also much safer for large amounts of money.0

Could you not use "the worlds local bank"? But it in a HSBC account in what ever European country and with draw it in England in £s?
This is just an idea, there is probably loads of reason why you can't do this, but maybe worth looking into?0 -

I found the ease of Citibank great.
I had like 8 different currency accounts when I logged in, I only regular used used 3, AUD, EURO, GBP, on occasion HKD, Singapore Dollar and I'm sure Thai Baht (mid way holidays between EU and AU/NZ).
Moving cash from my AUD savings to my unlinked AUD Citibank current account was treated as a faster payment type as internal to the group, the exchange rate was minimal higher but worth it for sheer simplicity of no drama. One time it got held up and Citibank AU called Citibank UK and its was credited in 2 mins.
In my opinion Citibank for international were superb, where as a mate with HSBC was the worlds hardest local fragmented bank.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0
