Hi Istar and thanks for your post. The standard charge is 27.40p/day. I'm not sure if that's good or not; might just balance out the very good day/night rates. Had to change from old double-meter system to E7 with horrible Eon, in order to then be able to swap to Ovo. Once with Ovo, I requested if they did E10, which they said they did; new meter fitted last Feb 19th, and got my 10 hours back. Here's a link where Ovo reference E10: https://www.ovoenergy.com/guides/energy-guides/economy-10.html

The link discusses E10 it doesn't say that they actually supply E10 although I have seen elsewhere mentions of Ovo and E10. It says contact your energy supplier rather than saying contact us which makes it look more like a news article rather that a tariff they support.

The rates you've quoted are E7 rates so that's why the question is being asked. What does it say on your bill? We're just curious that's all. If Ovo can do E10 for E7 rates then you might just be on to something good.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

That seems excellent rates from Ovo, I am sorry I never changed supplier a long time ago! I think at these rates I would persevere with the E10 and also try to do as much washing, tumble drying etc during the cheap rate times to take full advantage. My supplier in North Scotland last charged 7 pence per kWh about 15 years ago, we tend to get ripped off up north here!! Good luck and remember to submit readings regularly as you have a new heating system and it is a step into the unknown re. usage, don't want left with a nasty shock at year end. Regards Davie

Hi Davie, they are brilliant day/night rates. I'm not sure if the standing charge of 27.40p/day alongside those rates is high or not, but I've been able to lower my DD amount at least 3 times since joining. I'd highly recommend Ovo; decent, treat you like a human being, and everything's clear and simple. Sounds like you've been with some unfair suppliers, as have I (won ombudsman case against one), but no problems with Ovo. The changeover to the E10 meter took a long time to work it's way through the system, meaning I couldn't change my DD amount for a few months, is the only issue there's been. Waiting on the phone so far has been max 4-5 minutes. Email response within 24 hours is my experience so far. The customer service man was saying they'd been awarded the opportunity to offer the Warm Home Discount last year due to now being large enough to qualify. They get great reviews. As he himself said, as long as they keep expanding while keeping the same values, that's what matters.

Definitely will keep using the cheap rate hours; nice to be able to relax, rather than worry about one higher rate at all times. Definitely will keep an eye on readings/usage.

I can definitely assure you it is E10. I had an E7 meter, only 7 hours of heat. Called Ovo to ask if they could fit an E10 meter, which they could. I then got 10 hours of heat, until this great new heating system at last has brought me back into the modern era, lol, where it's full time heat all day, but luckily on Ovo's Better Energy Fixed (all online), at the rates of:
    Electricity (day): 12.32p/kWh
    Electricity (night): 6.83p/kWh
    Standing charge: 27.40p/day
My bill does detail that their cheapest similar/overall tariff would be the Better Energy - Economy 7 (all online), and that I'm already on the cheapest similar/overall tariff, so well spotted! Yes, Ovo definitely provide an E10 meter at E7 rates, which is a brilliant deal, as is them being fine with me now having the ecodan system yet being able to stay on these same rates that I'm used to.

Entering postcode in, on the page I linked to, does take you through to them offering 2 kinds of plan [only for all electric properties].

That standing charge is a little on the high side (mine is 18p, and that isn't cheap), but it might just work out with good unit rates like you have. I pay 12p/kWh for flat rate in my region.

Definitely, but, yes, overall works out really well. Sounds as if you have a decent deal overall too.

It's OK. I want better (who doesn't :rotfl:), but the only companies offering better are all a bit iffy. I have a bit longer on my fix, so I'm staying put for now.

If you want to keep an eye on what you could do if you choose to go E7 or flat rate, you should sign up to the cheap energy club. They'll monitor all the tariffs so you can check back and see where you stand. ;)

Lol, you're so right. :rotfl: A lot to be said for staying with a decent supplier, as you can't put a price on a supplier treating customers well, even if the rates are a tiny bit higher. I never want to go through what I went through with the previous supplier again. A great relief to find a decent supplier! Thank you for suggesting the CEC; I'm actually signed up, but each time the emails arrive, I take a quick look but always it comes down to that my experience with Ovo is really good. I'll keep an eye on the emails though, so thank you for mentioning that.

Re. Standing charge , it is possibly a little on the high side but I believe the low tariff rates you are being charged will more than make up for it. I am paying 20.74 pence per day for my single rate tafiff, single rate normally being cheaper than 2 rate, so it is probably comparable. Keep us updated re. your new heating system usage and if your DD is covering it OK. Regards Davie

Hi Davie. I agree; the rates seem to balance out, and glad your rates aren't ending up too high as well. Everyone in the cul-de-sac is waiting to see what the usage shows up as in a month, so it will be very interesting to see. Having just discovered I can carry the temperature adjuster thingummy around with me as well, lol, this system has a lot going for it already, so fingers crossed for good readings in a month. Will definitely update the thread. Regards, Cat
