It means they only have to carry one line rather than two and so can hold less stock, and it also means that if you need two European adaptors then you have to buy two packs rather than one - clever!

I saw one the other day. A Nespresso machine you can operate with your phone by bluetooth. What's the point in that when you still have to go to the machine to put the pod in?

Presumably the point is that you put the pod in your machine before you leave for work, then as you're coming back you use your phone to turn it on so you have nice fresh coffee waiting for you as soon as you walk in?

So good for once a day, as long as you remember to put the pod in and go against the manufacturers advice of not leaving pods in the machine?

They've done it so it's future friendly - next they'll be releasing the little pod picker and placer robot ;)

Except if its controlled by Bluetooth, then you'll need to be in range of the machine.

I assumed you would have a device on your home network which your phone could communicate with via the Internet, which would then send a Bluetooth signal to the coffee machine.

You may have guessed that I drink instant and have no idea about coffee "pods" (stupid word). I get more than enough caffeine at work and it's the last thing I want when I get home. But it seemed like a typically Internet of Things thing to want to do.

No different in principle to a teasmade. I assume people don't have a problem setting the thing up with teabags and water before they go to bed.

Oh, the Teasmade. In the days before central heating, it was lovely to have a hot cup of tea in bed instead of venturing downstairs and shivering whilst waiting for the kettle to boil. There really was a point to a Teasmade in the "good old days". I still have mine in the loft somewhere.
