High insurance premium due to vandalism
Options
My car was 'keyed' twice within a month, both instances reported to the police but no one caught
My insurance company waived the excess in both claims I didn't have to pay a penny as it was a police matter but now my insurance is due for renewal my premium has over trebled!!
Why am I being penalised for something that was not my fault?

Answer: That's what insurance companies do.
Did you protect your no claims bonus (NCB)?
Also shop around using one of the many companies available on the old interweb.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

Because you've
A. Made two claims.
B. Potentially lost no claims bonus.
C. They have decided you are now a greater risk.
D. Because they can, same as you're free to shop about for another policy.0 -
Yes I did protect my NCB
just seems so unfair I cannot remember (if I ever did!) the last time I claimed anything!
I have looked around and they're all the same unfortunately0 -

If you have indeed protected your NCB then the insurance should not 'technically' go up. You need to pursue this with your insurance company rather than here.

If he has 60% no claims and the basic policy is £1000 with the discount he pays £400.
If with two damage claims they want £10,000 he still has 60% no claims but cover will cost him £4000.
The no claims discount is still the same.0 -
i once spent 5 hours in thick snow waiting to find the person (s) unknown who delighted in damaging my car
they finally won as i never caught them
i moved
they had all the time in the world
i had to get up each morning to go to work
with regards insurance theres an old but true saying,"someones got to pay and it aint gonna be me" (the insurers have this written on their bed headboards) hence higher premiums, remember too when looking for alternative quotes you must put down your claims or your insurance will be invalid
sorry to hear your problems but welcome to todays sick world0 -

If you make a claim that is not recovered, then the insurer is likely to decide you are a higher risk and increase the premium, even though the "no claims discount" is protected. So you still get the 65% (or whatever) discount, but from a higher un-discounted figure.
Two such claims in a year will lead to a much bigger increase in the premium.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

As I said 'technically'.
However insurance companies are robbing bar stewards and more slippery than a slippy thing that's been doused in snake oil.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

insurer has increased costs because the area has moved risk due to claims made in this area not because of protected insurance
20 years ago a neighbour made a claim for a $50 shirt stolen from his washing line,he related the story to his neighbours and they all put in claims for stolen clothing items
house insurance went up at renewal because risk of claims was now deemed higher for all0 -
This is the reason why all my insurance policies have very high excesses.
My car insurance is there to comply with the law and for the one time I might end up completely writing off my car by ploughing into the foyer of a compensation lawyer convention!
Home insurance is in case my house and all my possessions burn to the ground.
Anything less than this and I'll foot the bill myself. The pot I have saved from getting cheap insurance due to 18 years of no claims more than covers the odd bump / scrape that may come along every few years or so.
This is not the way it should be, however if you make any claim at all the insurance companies WILL get their money back with interest in the end... one way or the other.• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.
