Used car just out of warranty, major issue has appaeared.

    There are garages that are capable of running renault diagnostics. You could try phoning around and getting a quote and compare the prices. You do need someone who understands the renault diagnostic codes, how to check them (even with codes, mistakes can be made if you aren't properly trained).

    Get the car fixed, then claim it back via the SCC.
  • Claim it back on what grounds? It's a ten year old car.
