Sky Sports.

Friends say they have bought a box for £40 to watch Sky Sports.
Why do people spend quite a lot monthly to have Sky Sports if they could buy a box at this price?

Nail on head. Bye bye Premiership's crazy money.

What sort of an idiot's going to pay crazy money to Sky when you can stream it with one of those decoders or with an Amazon stick with Kodi, never mind all the other less reliable streaming services.

a crappy Android box is no replacement for a sophisticated system like Sky.

Guaranteed HD v HD if you are lucky
Steady consistent image v buffering and lag
If its on you can watch it v If you can find a stream you can watch it.

Kodi is good for 3pm KO's and movies.

It's also the difference between legal and illegal (or if not illegal... dodgy).

The net has pretty much everything you can imagine for free, if you know where to seek it. The ethics of it though, is a personal matter.
  • Surely you can't just buy the box alone to get the sports though?

I had a friend that previously worked at Virgin Media and he said that Virgin actually send every channel down the line regardless of the subscription. So it's just a case of switching the box/card and you can get everything. But apparently sky was different (I don't know how).

Sky has gone a long time dominating this market so I'm for one happy to see other providers outbidding and taking the football. I'm more of a watch down the pub kinda guy so for me it doesn't affect my choices, but I think makes Sky now think about how they can keep customers as opposed to aquiring new ones through the lure of sports.

No, not at all. If anyone says it is easy and just plug and play they are talking rubbish.

With fire stick and enhanced version of Kodi loaded on it it is very very easy.
  • I thought this sort of thing was illegal? Seems fraudulent to me. Why do lots of people think this is acceptable? I would love sports channels but u can't afford it so I don't have it ... Simples.

    They're not

Part of my job last year was working on a report into pirated pay TV, there are plenty of solution available on the likes of ebay and amazon market that pretty much are plug and play. We had half a dozen of them working in our office. Both VM and Sky are being hit.
Sky can't easily stop the main exploit until they replace all the analogue boxes out there, not easy given there's something like 6 million of them, VM have an easier route once they decide the numbers add up to spend the money
Sky go accounts are routinely pirated along with other similar platforms from around the world but these should start to be less and less over the next year or so.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Problem with all of these is one buffering and poor quality streaming .
Two the sources regularly go totally off line .
