BA LHR to LGW

Does anyone know if you can claim compensation in these circumstances.
BA flight from Glasgow to Gatwick, cancelled with 8 hours notice. No alternative flight to Gatwick offered. A flight to Heathrow was made available departing 2 hours before the scheduled flight to Gatwick. At Glasgow the BA duty manager was spoken to, she advised" organise your own taxi, send in the receipt and we will pay". (We had to get to Gatwick to collect the car). A taxi was arranged cost £107.18, receipt submitted to BA.
Response In their view this was excessive and they will only pay £50.
1. Q How do I enforce payment of the balance?
2. Q As BA have failed to get me to my intended destination does this qualify for compensation?

Did you get anything in writing from the duty manager?
They have offered you the cost of the National Express coach (assuming two of you). Any reason that you didn't use this? It's right outside the terminal building.
If you're talking about EU 261 compensation - no, you have no claim.0 -
£50 appears to be the maximum taxi fare they will pay anywhere at the moment. I could understand the need for a taxi if you had a connecting flight with very little time to transfer but you state you were going to collect the car so this was presumably at the end of a journey? If so, I suspect unless you have the name of the person who told you to take a taxi, they will stick to their usual rules, which in this case for 2 people is exactly the same as the cost of the National Express coach0

Any reason they didn't use the coach after specifically being told that BA will pay for a taxi? Are you being serious?
Based on their story they're fully entitled to the full taxi fare under EU261. Granted it's a "he said she said" scenario, but then so would BA's claim of informing them of their EU261 rights - which would logically be when they restrict the journey cost to £50 if they wanted to do so. And although I'd agree that it's unreasonable to charge BA £100 for a journey that could have been done for £50, does EU261 technically state it has to be a reasonable cost if BA discharge their responsibility to transport you and ask you to sort it out yourself anyway?0 -

If BA had organised the connection for the passenger, instead of leaving up to passengers themselves, this problem would not have arrisen. Thats not a duty of care, so BA should pay up.Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0

I have checked regualtion again, just be sure. You are due compensation as your rerouted flight departed more than 1 hour before your original departure and you were flown to a different airport. I suspect you did not eventually arrive at Gatwick on time?
Unless your flight was cancelled due to an EC. What was the reason given for the cancealltion? If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
